Hi everyone,
My husband and I have been here for a few months and have been renting a car since our arrival but we're now thinking about buying our own. We'd like to buy a used car and are considering buying one off camp.
Has anyone gone through this process and/or has any suggestions on where to buy from?
Thanks in advance!

Near nakheel mall, you will see an area which has 200+ outlets for used and new cars. Go for chevrolet captiva.. its an amazing value for money if you are not after Chinese cars. Get your car technical inspected in the same area before your finalise your deal. You can also look for car adverts in company website but most of the cars are way above market price.

That's really helpful, thank you very much for the suggestions! Regarding registering the car, is this a convoluted process, do you know? Does it require a letter from your sponsor, for example, and will the dealerships help with getting the car registered etc?

Once you finalise the car, buy insurance online, buying process is through absher. Lot of steps to go through but it takes 10 15 min max. lifeinsaudiarabia.net/transfer-car-ownership-saudi-arabia/This shows steps.

We bought mine from car street (yes, it really is called that!), they did all the paperwork for us, very easy process. I bought new but there were a lot of options for used, particularly bigger cars.

I went to haraj website, is it above market price there? Thanks We had a look at haraj too and found there are some cheaper, older ones (the lowest we saw was ~12,000 sar). The used dealerships were around 50k-100k but the cars were in much better condition. If, like us, you're looking for a bit of an old banger, haraj might be the way to go. We're still renting for the time being until we make a decision.

Is this the name of the shop or an actual street? I can't seem to find it on the map! We went to a street in Dammam with loads of car dealerships so perhaps we accidentally found it?

The common name for the street likely. In Ras Tanura we have "Man St" and "Lady St" - the shops in these streets are more geared to their particular clientele.
Go to the Soukh and you will find shops tend to be arranged in "clusters". All the Abaya shops are on 1 block, all the gents shops are together, etc.

Do you buy used cars as is or do they come with certain minimum guarantee and inspections done. Like in canada every transfer of car needs safety inspection which covers any basic issues. Also there is regulation on car dealers to provide info upfront and in detail of any issues
