What does back up candidate officially mean? Does it imply they’ve hired someone else before you and/or wait your turn? I’ve been encoued to apply for other roles which makes less sense if I’m backup.

Hi
It means that you are technically qualified. You may be hired if the main candidate refuses or a new job is requisitioned . I was a backup candidate and got hired in the end. There is no harm in applying for other roles. Not all backup candidates get hired. I think the chances are 30-50%. They ‘ll not let you apply for other positions if you are being considered seriously but that happens when you are about to receive the offer.

I’ve been encoued to apply for other roles which makes less sense if I’m backup. I was qualified as backup candidate in July 2023 and in Jan 2024 they came back to me to make an offer. I sent them all document (degrees, certificate, payslips, etc). and didn't heard back until now anything. Hope they will come back in next weeks I guess. I was also informed that until I'm preffered candidate (currently for this position) I can't be considered for any interview for other positions. |

As you said it may take 6 months to a year to hear from them. Normally you ‘ll be considered for an interview for the same position 1 year after the last interview. |

Based on experience from this forum, this could mean that another department/team is interested in you. If you have been interviewed and the similar vacancy is opened up in another team then they can hire you based on notes/feedback from your previous interview. However if you had not had any interview then this can be anything …..Most probably hiring is cancelled by the team and another team is reviewing your cv.

o wa, actually I thought the same and you are right, no hoping anything until they contact you via an official email from RA. I believe this will be the same department that I was interviewed and passed to a different team under same department. Or the position is closed😄

It is difficult to understand the online status. I have been interviewed for a role back in Sep 2023. After a few days of interview, the status changed to Not Selected. This month, they changed the status to Moved to another requisition for the same role which I was not selected. No communication yet so far.
