Good day all,
I recently signed a contract with Aramco after a month of negotiations. I am British, originally from Egypt, currently working in London in finance (10+ years experience). I was very transparent during the negotiations phase, even sending them my current payslips like the requested. We agreed on a package in the end. They requested I send additional information and that I fill in the KYC form for the background check and then they can apply for my visa. I did that and a couple of days later, they came back to me saying they made a mistake and overbid with the package. They withdrew the contract and offered something much lower. Has this happened before ? What could be the reason ? Or could it be an honest mistake that they only picked up after 2 months back and forth with me ?
Thanks

Did you get a very good offer (after negotiations)as compared to your current salary?

Yes, I shared my current payslips with them before we started negotiating as well

Sharing payslips is the standard process. Offer withdrawn due to some reason ( contingencies not cleared or hiring cut) is normal but offer revised with a lower salary is new for me. They may have found someone else cheaper … so trying to see if you agree to the revised offer or new instructions from the management to cut cost….or as they said they overbid on the package. It could be anything.

Unprofessional approach from Aramco but somehow it happens. Expect unexpected situation or result from any Middle East operating companies. I have been in Middle East with operating companies since 2010 and seeing this or many other status. Only new this to any people who recently join similiar companies in Middle East operators. Good luck my friend.

With the change in strategy from aiming for 13mboepd to 12mboepd, alot of projects and budgets are being reconsidered.

I suspect another VP or SVP in the chain saw the offer and baulked. Out of interest what’s the role and GC level? Many parts of the company are very low offers to expats thesedays. It’s very bad form all round and raises many red flags in my view. Presumably approvals would have been gotten before making the offer. This seems out of the ordinary. It sounds like they do want to hire you though. Could you ask for a bonus later on if you did well?
