Good day, I am interested in knowing what options are available to keep my UK number after moving to the Kingdom. What do people usually do? Do you just let go of your UK number or what options are available if I want to keep my UK number for as long as possible. I am not talking about using it in the Kingdom as the daily number but just want it to keep the number and maybe occasionally receive text messages.

I run a dual SIM phone, Saudi SIM and UK SIM on android phone. My UK SIM is with Giffgaff as a PAYG SIM which I load up with 1 months data whenever I go back to UK for data.
For apple it needs to be a later model phone (model 13 or later).
To keep the UK SIM active you need to send an SMS at least every 3 months to keep it active. 30p every 8-10 weeks basically.
You could use another provider, just be sure their requirements to keep the SIM active. Changing companies takes only a few days after requesting the code.

I did the same as Tamsin, cheapest sim only deal with EE at £6 a month. Means I have a UK number when I go home to UK on vacation.

Did you have to activate roaming separately? and do you have to make a chargeable call/text every 90 days or are you covered because you are on a sim only contract?

I should add our deal included European roaming and data so we have it for when back in UK. I think for ours as it’s a contract (and not pay as you go) you don’t need to keep the Sim live - it’s just pay the monthly amount - but you would need to check the detail there!

I’m EE, and it offers roaming packages once it realises you are here. You do not need to do anything in order to keep it live, mine literally lives uncharged in a drawer for months at a time.

I have taken e-sim from lyca mobile with PAYG sim. I read that it becomes inactive after 90 days, so a sms or a call will keep it active with some money loaded in account.
