Just wanted to ask others here who stay in Dhahran with teenagers: what is life like for them? Do they miss the independence of getting around by themselves? What about friendships?

They have some independence, there are camp buses and the Rekab, they can get themselves around camp and off camp to the malls. They hangout in the parks, they go to the gym/oool, bowling etc. Just like living in any small town, really.

Most people I know send their teenage kids abroad to board, doubly so if they are girls. Paying towards this is one of the few old benefits Aramco has retained. There’s a limited amount of entertainment here, does ultimately depends what you want for them.

The people we know from the 7 years we lived in Dubai and that have now found jobs in KSA keep their families either in UAE or Bahrain. I remember even a lot of Saudi students came to Dubai to study, because there was more to do. I hope it changes, I know the government is working on it but it'll take time.

There have been a lot of changes. There is more freedom. Year 10, the gcse years are fairly full atm, after gcse a lot of children appear to be leaving. For lifestyle and educational reasons.
