Are there indoor swimming pools on on campus or nearby? Main concern would be about outdoor temperature and some time air quality might make swimming outdoors not ideal.

Not seen one. But the pools are cooled in summer, heated in winter.

None on camp, there are a few in Bahrain in various places. Not sure about Dhahran/Khobar.
One general thing about living here is learning to monitor the weather/pollution situation and planning your activities around them.

Coming from Scotland we are pretty used to just cracking on in the weather but appreciate the heat out in KSA is a different level. How does the pollution change things? What should we expect on this front? I didn’t appreciate this was a factor/ issue. It’s industrial and dust. It can affect sinuses and asthma, in my experience. You stay in the air con, use recycle in your car, buy air purifiers. It’s not much different to other locations in Asia in that respect. Occasionally children will not be allowed at break without a mask. Not a bad idea to source some and bring with you in case you do struggle, you want the N96 type, not the surgical.

Yes as pointed out you just have to watch out for bad air days, buy air purifiers for home and tape your windows up. It’s one of the downsides to being in the gulf, Dhahran is downstream from a lot of industrial activity also. You workaround the heat and end up doing a lot more in the evenings.

I’d say, overall, we do get more outside time than in Scotland. The months that are difficult are like deepest winter there, you stay in more.
