Hi everyone, thank you for letting me join. My husband had just accepted an offer to join Saudi Aramco in Dhahran. We have a 3 year old and another on the way. My little one is very used to nursery and we do music and swimming lessons outside as well. I am a bit worried how it will be there for her. Would she be able to go to preschool when she turns 4 and is this a good school? Also does anyone offer swimming and music lessons in the compound? Are there other classes like tennis or other sports for really little ones? Sorry lots of questions but the reality of taking her out of her little friendship group and away from her grandma and then also having a new sibling exploding her world is starting to set in so I’m hoping to fill her time as well as possible.

I’m also very interested to hear more about activities for little kids. I know there is a parent and child group but unsure on any other clubs specifics. We are due to move end of year to Dhahran too.

My 2ps worth:
- schools start here age 5. Aramco will pay from age 4 for EAP, the catch being the wife needs to be in KSA 180 days a year to do this. They don’t provide a nursery on camp for expats, unless you both work for Aramco. Not a lot of choice in KSA for decent nursery provision, take your chances if you want to do that here.
- These are some groups of mums that meet up, but the clubs that used to exist around childcare were shut down by aramco management.
- There’s pools here and tennis courts etc, decent facilities, but a lack of people using them and can only be used when the weather isn’t too hot or polluted.
- We spend our weekend taking the kids to clubs in Bahrain where there are options, and things are more normal. This might work for you, factor in the costs before joining.
- In the summer you need to go back home, as very little going on and the weather is terrible, with not being able to do any outdoor activities with small kids. Factor that in too.
- There are kids clubs arranged by aramco during the hols, but they start at age 6, you pay for them yourself, the hours are typically mornings or evening sessions.
There’s not a lot for really little ones, things start around age 5/6, that includes swimming lessons etc

Are there clubs like Rainbows or Brownies etc on camp? There is definitely boy/Girl Scouts of America. Plus the art group, gymnastics, ballet, more age 5. Under that there is art and craft things happening at the garden shop frequently, things at the women’s group. For tennis, you’d need to contact the association but I’d be surprised if they didn’t have lessons.

As stated, there are clubs for various things. Soccer, softball, swimming, brownies, guides, judo, karate, golf but they outdoor ones will close for summer due to the heat and the fact that many families will be OOK during the school recess.
Once your kids are settled life will settle into a round of sleepovers every weekend, you either will have a house full of kids or none at all.

Are there clubs like Rainbows or Brownies etc on camp? As per a flyer today, it’s called Daisies rather than rainbows, starts at K4, then brownies for older.
