Just DM'd you. 100 percent agree. Don’t let the previous years layoffs scare you off or claim career limited opportunities turn you away. It’s not as bad as some are saying on this board, IMO. I strongly agree a job with SA is more secure than most large US or other western company. Everyone ones situation is different and unique but maybe similar, so you have to make the decision that’s best for your family. We like it here because of the ease and low stress life, travel benefits, the community and overall unique lifestyle. However, like most, if not all, the financial benefit is the big driver for us to come. All that being said, I think you would hard pressed to leave a good job in US without at least 40% bump in salary before accounting for the tax savings benefit. There are lots new hire’s arriving with young families, so seems a little revitalization from the COVID exodus. To give you some more context, I’m from the US and I’m a rehire. I worked for Aramco from 08 to 13 had to leave for family reasons (regretted somewhat because prob could’ve stuck it out). I came back at the end of 2022 and plan on staying until I retire in 8 years this time.

By no means my original post was designed to be provocative or a 'change my mind' challenge.
It was a genuine and valid concern that I think should be part of the thought process (or at least it was in my case). One of the many elements to take into account before joining as an expat.
I agree though that all experiences are different and we all have different situations. Also I wouldnt expect educated professionals to make any life changing decisions based on opinions / recommendations from anonimous sources in a forum.
In the end I went for it and accepted a GC14 role.. now just waiting for the visa approval to make the move.
Cheers

I think I’d take into account that it does involve admin, virtually nothing out there for expats, but not for the company, nothing has changed. They will recruit who they wish with a very specific skills list.
I’d also take into account that in oil, in a downturn, nobody is safe but we take our chances.
