We have had a very reasonable quote for shipping our car. This will be a small car we own outright and will likely purchase a second bigger car once in kingdom. How do we deal with car insurance for our British car once in the Kingdom? I presume we just get insurance in SA once we arrive? Many thanks

Have you double checked the current rules? I know they require it to be less than 5 years old and they charge you tax, 20% of the value. But I think they only allow left hand drive on top of that.

Saudi prices are very reasonable vs the UK (even after the 15% VAT that was introduced).
Some of the Chinese cars are really cheap and good quality these days - especially as a camp car abd with crazy good warranty miles.

This is research 🧐 as Bluestaff says, I think I’ve 70k warranty on mine and people sell low mileage camp cars all the time. Petrol is very cheap so smaller, particularly with the distances involved, isn’t so crucial here.

Many thanks You won't be able to import a British car as they are right hand drive, unless you pay for a conversion to left hand drive before you go through the import process. I looked at importing from the US but was put off after hearing horror stories from colleagues.

Thanks McShane good to know. Is that separate to the settling in allowance?

Thanks McShane good to know. Is that separate to the settling in allowance? No, that’s separate. One month’s base salary, we were told that was also split but it all came in the first salary. The shipping you have to apply for, the settling in is automatic.

Yes there is, it’s either 90 days or the 6-months probation… I can’t remember the details.
