I've been here for 6 years, and in that time, I've seen a lot of positive changes across Kingdom. It's unfortunate to see a lot of the negative comments posted, and I won't waste my time quoting anyone or giving my opinion. Best thing to do is visit on evisa prior to making any decisions. All the best! I am currently considering an offer, and have considered making a trip to KSA before making a decision. Did anyone else do this before starting? If so, what did you see/do while there to get a feel for the area or company? it would be very unusal to visit KSA to get feel of it. You wont be able to visit Dhahran or any other camp unless someone you know make visitor pass for you. I dont think HR entertain such request anymore. Even if you enter in, you will only be able to feel a lot unless you start living here and have your circle. Eastern coast have limited activities when compared to western but Aramco makes sure their employees are kept entertained and busy with lots of activities. There are few nice videos in Youtube where people drive around in camp. That will help you to get some perspective. There are house tour videos as well! So in summary, you can decide your move without all hassle of visiting this place. |

I know 5 people (maybe more?) who have done it in the last year or so. Whilst they mostly couldn’t access camp they did mooch around, get a feel of the culture and cost of living, visit schools etc. If you have the time and the budget, why not?

I'm in the exact same boat. Had interviews in January and waiting for conditional offer. I'm planning on declining it regardless of the money. My honest advice is try to talk in person to former expats. They might have very interesting opinions completely un-filtered from these forums. Bottom line is if you are a career oriented person or mid-career professional WALK AWAY! If you are in Houston feel free to send me a message and gab a coffee.
