O Seniors, I have searched through forum and found mix views hence seeking clarification. I am expecting an offer and was indicated that I am being considered for Petroleum Engineer I position. I read about 3 different TIERS in another thread. Could you shed light on: - Which GC I should expect for PE I?
- Hierarchy in positions: After PE-I (If promoted in years to come), should I expect PE- Specialist position or PE-II? i.e which one comes first?
- Any indicative range of salary $$ i should expect? I got Masters, 12yrs experience, non-US
Really appreciate the response.

Hi sindhieagle I don't know an answer to your question. However, may I ask you what your latest academic qualification and your years of experience?
Thanks

I did some search on LinkedIn for Aramco employees, but not PEs, and found that their positions rank up from position-III to II to I, then they become on leadership positions. It may worth checking LinkedIn for Aramco PE.

Chance of ever getting promoted are next to zero so you really should not factor this into any offer. There’s plenty of threads on this forum around salaries, ultimately it comes down to what works for you and your own expectations. Just don’t sell yourself short and think very carefully if you are walking away from a good job in a decent firm.

Thanks for the resposne. thanks for the idea of searching through linkedin.
I was just hoping if some seneiors can indicate the ranges they might have heared for PE1. But yes at the end it boils to what the offer is. I am pretty much sure once SA asks us our current pay stubs they got an idea what to offer.

I am surprised on your question, Not sure if you ever worked in this part of the world before. Do you think they are hiring people from all over the world to promote or giving them high rank positions? You would have to have super special skills to get to these kind of positions in Middleeast. This is how the system works here; There is heavy localization ongoing in Aramco, Adnoc and QP. They Hire Locals for Management Positions and you know most of the Locals don't have strong technical Knowledge or skills to perform the duties but to fulfil the condition from Govt they have to hire Locals for these positions. To perform his duties well, the Manager will hire you guys (SMEs) as his Shadow. You will work for him as an assistant or may be independent but everything you do will funnel through him. There is no promotion to next level except salary or grade increase. If you want a stable job with lots of money and with YES SIR atude, then this is the best job for you. if you are a guy who wants to do something with your career and have a dream of becoming a Director/VP etc then I won't recommend you to join these Companies. This is the reality of Middleeast operator companies. I hope you got the point.

Expect this question from them…

Great replies by everyone. You need a different mindset if you are planning to work here. Mostly it is due to financial gain that people choose to work in ME. You should be asked about your current pay and based on that your offer will be made. Although there are other factors in play as well. Good luck.

Yes, I did alot of survey and again everyone was right when they are suggesting "what works for you."

However, I got air cleared. Its like E IV (entry level) -> E III -> E II -> E I and then specialist. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and no, I never worked in ME before, yet I do understand, being an expat for half of my life, like how your expertise would be required. You are also right the motivation is stable job + $$

Promotion will happen. Below GC15, normally take 3 to 5 years per grade. Above 15, it needs 5 to 7 years. Good rating? Forget about it because you won't have the opportunity to lead projects. Do not fight for these opportunities because it does not worth the time. Leave them for the locals so that you will be stress-free and your true hourly rate will be much better.

What are the differences between GC15 & grades below in terms of benefits. I understand Aramco offer business class for GC15 and above for the first travel. Any other extra benefits?

Business travel and hotels when travelling for work and there is some housing that is 15+, but that’s only applicable once you’ve done two years and are eligible to move.
