Old ty houses that are small and held together with silicone. Are you in the main camp, the wooden houses? I’m in the Hills and it’s dated but very solid, can’t hear the neighbours etc.

The hills houses are dated. Think of a mix between American 1960s suburbia and 1970s U.K. council estates. You have to be able to accept this will be a significant step down in what you’re used to. Other than that, things that annoy me are low sinks in the bathrooms, raw water accept one tap in the kitchen and VERY loud AC.

Definitely a step down or two compared to my house back home, the Hills is like a 60s/70s council estate with pine trees. It is what it is. In the hills recommend get water filters fitted, the stuff that comes out of the bathroom taps has a shiny glow to it as if it’s tainted with oils. Totally agree on the AC it’s so loud, you will get used to it eventually, just as as you will to the 2am Tornado sorties flying overhead…

We are family of 4 with 2 small kids.
I see that almost everyone is talking about being allocated a house in Hills.
Are there any other locations where you would be expected to be placed except the Hills? Or is it the only area now that has empty houses?
Thanks

But most likely the Hills because there is space, they (hopefully) allocate you a house that’s been converted to 220 and it’s the area that has the elementary school. But you’ve no control over it, so I’d really not worry about it.

How many bed rooms house for bachelor accommodation? My family plans to visit occasionally. Would it be big enough to accommodate four of us for a short period?

There appears to be plenty, bearing in mind they convert constantly and people come and go. I don’t think I’ve come across anyone who has been put in 110.

Everyone is talking about installing filters. What type of filter is the best and should I buy it in KSA or bring with me? How many?
Do they have cold water coming off taps/shower in the summer? I worked in another middle east country and during summers they didn't have cold water as the weather warmed the pipes and all you could get is luke warm water at best.
Thanks

Voltage, everything was originally 110 and you could buy 110 goods here but not now, now 110 items are only available if you import them yourself or buy secondhand. 220v is the only option available for new items.
