I Secured an interview at the Houston office which is coming up, however, one week after I received the interview invitation, I was laid off from my current job. Should I mention this during my interview or not?

I wouldn’t unless if interviewers brought it up in the meeting which I guess they would, so get ready to answer the why question. I don’t think this will significantly affect your interview so don’t worry too much about it but be prepared. My two cents worth and good luck!

Agreed. No reason to mention unless you feel you’re forced to, to avoid the appearance of being deceptive but shouldn’t be an issue if you lost job due to work force reduction (layoff). Just be prepared for a concise answer for layoff.

My only concern is that if I don’t mention it, won’t they find out during the background investigation/verification? Don’t want to hide anything and create an issue…

Just be prepared for a concise answer for layoff. That’s my main concern. I was not laid off because of my job performance but because of challenges the company is facing financially. I feel like I should mention it as they will find out during the employment verification or background investigation step…

Prob can’t be avoided w/o mentioning and good pt - need to mentioned for employment ck, if u receive an offer. Specially, if the interviewer starts out, “I see you’re currently w/ company ABC”. Then obviously you want to say, “well actually I was recently laid off due to workforce reduction due to the company financial challenges, etc.” but keep it short & sweet.

Good luck! Btw, are you interviewing for a finance role? I've been told I've been selected for an interview for a finance job I applied for but no date or specifics yet.

The first time I interviewed with Aramco I had been laid off a month or so prior to the interview. I don't recall the subject coming up and I didn't make a point of mentioning it. I would not bring attention to the fact. Take opportunities to provide your experience and expertise. Try to put the layoff completely out of your mind and interview as if you were still employed and they should be convincing you to work for Aramco

Tend to agree with arcticengineer. No reason to mention unless the interviewer pointly asks if you are still with the your former company. You can always update your application/resume and/or let background checker know later if your candidacy progresses.
Either way - if it comes out during the initial interview or later on, should be no big deal. Companies layoff and people get laid off all the time.
