Hi, I am from Calgary and moving to Dharan next month. My family will join me once I got all documentation done in Dharan (~1-2month).
My question is - Does Aramco offers the travel allowance instead of travel itinerary for the family only(not the principal candidate) to make their first arrival in Dharan? As I want to keep their travel booking in my hand to make some stopovers of our own wish.
Thanks.

I checked with her, she said "this can only be told by Saudi office so when you will be there you will get know". So I believe a recent hire (who recently attended orientation there) could give this answer as I need this info before hand. Thanks and appreciate your response!

I think the answer is “no”, they will reimburse or arrange travel for your family (economy class only) from home origin to Dhahran. You get a cash allowance after a years service for “travel” purposes, but that’s entirely separate.

I don't know who has told you the paperwork will be completed and your family will join you in 1-2 months. What I have seen from co-workers is you are looking at 3-4 months, possibly longer.

I've got to contradict here but I had my families visa 6 weeks after I arrived. Although I was extremely fortunate with timings and appointments it is possible. They could have flown here within 7 but I chose to travel home to take them over at week 8.

o, I moved to Dhahran from Canada on 27th April and My family got the VISA on May 8th. This is one of the fastest times I have ever heard for family visa. It all depends on how fast your Iqama is processed and how good you are with your documents. So timelines are not fixed, it’s better you are prepared for 3-4 months of time instead of 1-2 months.
Yes, the company pays you travel allowance instead of tickets and it’s more beneficial. The travel allowance they calculated me for one adult and two kids is 3 times higher than the economy fare I have to pay for three people. Once you come here, you can talk to personnel team and they will give the exact amount based on your family size. I see you are talking about stopover, but that is not an option. The family’s boarding pass has to be submitted to claim the allowance and the origin should be from your home country. If the boarding pas is from a different country, then they will calculate the allowance from that country and compared with your country. Lower of the two is paid.

One more important thing, you have to get your marriage certificate translated and attested from the country of marriage. The Houston office might have got attested your marriage on ARAMCO letterhead and there is high chance that this will be rejected. In my case the ministry employees discussed over 45 mins before accepting. This is highly dependent on the employee mood for that day. And this will further delay the process. So I strongly suggest you get your marriage certificate get translated and attested from Saudi embassy of the country of the marriage. If you are too late and ready to start, you can come and try your luck. You have to carry original marriage certificate as well as attested degree certificates with you.

That’s amazingly fast and not normal at all!! Mine took 5 months… I had all docs ready, translated and attested back home and brought them with me. Unfortunately it’s then up to whether Mr A is smiling, as to if things get done in a reasonable time frame. With me the medical docs “disappeared”… and the registration at the SCE wasn’t recognised because the form Aramco did on my behalf was incorrect….I had to chase every issue myself and it was an absolute pain in the neck. Not a process I would inflict on anyone. The process of getting the visas at the embassy back home took another 5 weeks but didn’t require any intervention.

Don’t want to derail where this is going, but did have the general question: Has anyone had any concerns (safety, health, etc) with bringing their small children to the kingdom? Mine are in the 2-6 age range.

The main issues for me with the young kids are environmental. it’s just not healthy for young kids living in an environment that is routinely 6X over the recommended limit for safe PM particles. You can check the US embassy air monitoring in Bahrain for some reasonably accurate stats.
There’s also been questions and some history of expats getting quite ill from polluted groundwater and cases of cancer linked to toxins in the local environment. If just adults moving over then you take your choice, it’s a tougher dilemma exposing growing children - but you can at least make an informed choice.
