Dear All,
I have cleared all my contingencies and received my 90 day single entry visa. I have 3 months notice period with my current employer in UK and some unused holidays due to COVID.
Despite my 3 months notice period, I have been slightly pressurized by my relocation advisor to start by end of Dec 2021 in order to be eligible for the Annul Travel Allowance (family status). I am told that if I start after 1 Jan, I will loose 2022 enlement and will only be eligible for allowance in 2023 (although my understanding is that allowance will be given but beginning of 2023 so there is a delay of few months only?).
I wanted to ask the members for their views? Is annul travel allowance worth for all the hassle I will encounter? I will have less than a month to pack up everything for a family with 3 kids, do some refurbishment work on the house, put the house on market, sell the furniture, 2 cars, cancel utility and other contracts etc s. In addition, my current employer will also not be happy (may impact future reference) although I could use my unused holidays to shorten the notice period.
On the other side, there is also always risk of new COVID lockdown etc. so I am confused.
Any guidance/views are much appreciated.

If you come by 2021, you can use your 2022 allowance after one year of service (you can use it until the 1st quarter of 2023 since your 1st anniversary comes the very last part of 2022), AND ALSO 2023 allowance (can be used anytime in 2023). Look at your offer and consider the travel allowance amount is worthy to push everything. On your relocation guide, it suggests coming before the year-end and I also agree with that, if possible.

I would agree with starting in December vs. January. Travel allowance for 5 people is a chunk of money. Sometimes having a push to get everything wrapped up in a hurry is a hidden blessing.
I understand wanting to travel together with family, but if you can have them delay their arrival and finish up loose ends to aid arriving in December you might want to consider that. Having some time on your own to get settled, set up Iqama, bank account, etc. before family arrives is a benefit. You can't appreciate the frustration of not being able to get your families Iqamas etc, until you have yours, and getting everything set up with Tawakalna app to get into any location with immunizations etc.
I'm glad I started in December after seeing what I would have missed out on.

Check with your HR Advisor if there are other reasons. Someone else was saying their HR contact advised them they had to come in 2021 and if they did not, there was a possibility HR in Saudi Aramco may cancel the requisition (not the job) since the job allocation was for year 2021 and Aramco UK (assuming you are going through UK) will have to raise a completely new job requisition for you for 2022. Maybe wrong, but I believe for 2021 they have budget for specific slots and if not filled in the year, they have to raise new slots for 2022.
