Dear fellow members, This is my second week at Dhahran compound and i am trying to get my head straight. One of the things that bug me is the tipping culture which i am not familiar with ( I mean zero !!) as i relocate from Europe and tipping is just not a standard like in the US for example. So after one week here I am pretty confused and I really don't know if I should tip taxi drivers, delivery guys, waiters ...... On my way from the airport to the accommodation i felt like the driver was waiting for something when we arrived but i couldn't tell (it is only the second day that I figured that it might be a tip! ) and I had the same feeling the other day at the commissary when an operator helped me bag my groceries (once again I didn't ask for it and it really felt strange as I am used to pack them alone) so I gave him 20 SAR without knowing if it was right….. So for those of you who have been around for a while, could you please let me know what is the tipping culture here and how much should i give in order to avoid awkward situations in the future ? Thank you in advance for your feedbacks.

Yes, tip. They earn tiny amounts. I wouldnt do 20SAR tho. Probably max 5 for the packer (tho I would gave declined his offer, and packed myself). I usually rounded up taxis to the next note (my typical fair was 25, so I'd give 30), and we usually rounded up a dinner bill by 10%, but left sensible amounts - so a 93SAR bill, we'd leave 100, not mess with 1 SAR notes.
We went on Aramco, but got amazing maintenance and gardening services by offering drinks (cartons of juice) and either crisps or biscuits when we saw them, or needed them. Our regular gardener also got about 50SAR at Eid.
