Dear all,
First of all i would like to thank you for contributing to this forum. It was very helpful from the very beginning of the recruitment process.
I have been assigned to Dhahran camp an will be joining Aramco in few days. I've got a couple of questions though if you could please share your feedback :
1- How much cash should i bring along with me (i've read that 2000 USD / Euros would be a decent amount of money to bring along until the first pay is received) ? 2- Would it be better to change currency before or after arrival (i am relocating from France) 3- Since Aramco no longer offers belongings shipping to the kingdom, when can i claim the CIL payment ? 4- Since i will be working in Dhahran main offices, should i bring several suits with me or people just dress casual at work ? Also, should i bring some nice warm clothes with me for winter ? 5- Is it possible to buy a phone card directly at the airport with 4G internet connection? I've read that i cannot subscribe to the internet until i get my Iqama which apparently is 3 weeks ? 5- Do you have any specific advise regarding "must to bring" items when i first arrive ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

1 dont know, sorry. 2 dont convert in Europe. Pretty sure the bank on camp will convert. Or the airport? 3 think it came in first pay packet. Might gave changed with the change in policy tho. 4 nope. Maybe bring one suit, but you wont really need one. You dont need Eurooean winter clothes. A jumper for when the AC gets a bit fierce, and a light jacket for winter mornings. 5 no idea. Sorry. 6 must bring differs between houses... I guess the only thing required by everyone is patience and adaptability.
Safe travels 6

Thank you in advance for your help. Have a look at the relocation guide you should have been sent. It does answer many of the questions you have, although I don't have it to hand and can't remember most answers. One answer I do know is you can buy a STC pre paid sim and WiFi router at the airport, to see you through until your iqama is issued. I am due out in December time, and have got a "Revolut" card and started buying SAR, as the exchange rate is pretty good on it just now.

1. A few thousand Riyals for small purchases over the first few days
2. Use your cash cards / credit cards from home. If you use the credit card, clear the balance with online banking immediately you use it.
3. Not sure - looks as if this is changed policy sine u was hired.
4. Dress code is generally "Smart Casual". Shoes, pants, shirt. Very few people wear tie or suit outside of very senior positions. Temperature in winter can drop to 8 degrees early morning, but generally 12 degrees is low at 6am in winter, will rise to 15-20 degrees most winter days. Light jacket for winter. Some form of light rainwear for the very rare occasions it rains - when it rains it absolutely chucks it down.
5. You are allowed 1 sim only (until you get Iqama when you can have 2). Buy an unlimited Data / Phone package for the first month. Use your mobile as a hotspot. Maybe 400 Riyals. Iqama typically 3-6 weeks. Camp likely will have STC fiber broadband, that opens up to you once you have Iqama and banking.
6. Nothing really unless there are little items you can't do without. Second mobile maybe to keep your French phone number up (many use dual sim phones).
Lastly Bank account. Set this up once you have Iqama. Online banking is a must here, and you also will need to set up Absher account, Saihati, Tawakalna (covid app) to enter anywhere. Driving license - don't be cheap, get the 10 year one
Induction will help a little, but mostly other expats will guide you thru these things.
