Hi,
I'm due to relocate to Dhahran 23rd August. Can anyone please advise re shipment allowance and whether it is worth shipping furniture etc? TIA

It is an inidividual decision, you could get new furniture here or rent from housing. Personally dont think furniture is worth shipping.

We succesfully used Pickfords International going in that direction.

Due to enter Kingdom sometime in July, and thinking on luggage - Does anyone have advice on how many bags to bring or would an air box be a better option - if so would it be with SaudiA at same time or another carrier- I'm likely not bringing furniture but things like PS5, coffee machine etc would be nice to have along for the ride.

Mostly everything you need you can get here.
I would bring clothes enough for a few weeks. Office wear is generally smart / casual - open neck shirt, pants and shoes. For out of office, shorts and Tee is the norm around camp, pants for the mall.
PS5 - sure bring it. I wouldn't trust it in hold luggage tho. You will be able to get all your kitchen essentials etc. in Saco / Extra and Amazon is gaining traction nowadays. Furniture you can cover once you claim your shipping allowance, but you will get a settling in allowance as soon as you are set up with ID card to help smooth things over. The Aramco provided furniture is trash but will tide you over a short while.
UBER or a taxi is super easy also if you need to get from the mall with small items

We brought 10 suitcases between 3 people. Clothes, pillows (in vacuum bags), 1 whole suitcase of Lego. Ps5 went in hand luggage. I knew we were in a 220v house but didn’t bother with kitchen electricals. Coffee is a big thing here and you can get a machine at every price point very easily.

Thanks, (especially for the coffee tip) - yes not going to bring furniture but paintings, some books etc would be interested in bringing across.
I'm GC 14 but still seems to be an economy ticket and one bag of 23kg - which is a bit crazy. - looks like have to bite the bullet - is it more reasonable to do an air freight box of some sort (I suppose clearing etc is more complex) or just do the multiple bags?

Only GC15+ receive business class flights. It is worth joining the airlines loyalty schemes, I have with both KLM and BA and get an additional 23kg suitcase to travel with no extra charge. I did 3 suitcases when I travelled, then another 7 when my wife and kids came. Also did an Aramex shipment with a few boxed afterwards too.

You will be enled to claim the personal effect allowance once you get here which is a generous amount and should offset the costs of buying additional luggage or shipping if you choose to do so. Multiple bags is definitely the simplest, you can even box all your paintings and send it as luggage together with the rest of your things.

When I moved to ME first time, I only travelled with one checkin bag and arranged shipping cargo for 30 boxes to bring most of my items. I think it was a good decision as it helps to speedup your settling time and no need to go out frequently to buy basic stuff. Shipping costs are not high and it gets compensated with allowance you will get.
