o,
I'm due to receive my formal offer in the next few weeks. In the interview, I was asked how I would feel working on site, 5 days on, two days off. I said I haven't experienced this before so can't give an exact answer but I'm up for a challenge.
I've been thinking about it, and I feel that working 5 days on site and returning to family (wife and 3 kids) on weekends only is really unsustainable in the long term.
Does anyone know how easy it is to move from site work to a different role within the same department and/or how soon this can be done? I have no problem doing it for a few months, but my gut feeling is I won't be able to do it indefinitely.
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about a role at Jazan, so flying in and out, and staying away from your family during the week? If so, I wouldnt expect a transfer to Dhahran soon - and within a few months wouldnt make sense - you would just have found your feet and be moving g again. If living away from your family 4 nights a week isnt sustainable for you, dont accept the job. The family compound at Jazan is a LONG way from being finished.

Thanks for the insight. I can speak the language and very familiar with the culture so i don't need to necessarily live in a compound, but as of now, I don't know the work location so I shouldn't get carried away and I'll wait until the location is known before exploring the options further. I appreciate the comment that it isn't expected/feasible to move very soon.

Generally, it is easier to change roles or move within the department. But if everyone in your department is 5/2 then you need to move to another department which is extremely difficult. Best to get the offer and negotiate before joining.

Thanks for your insight. I'm aware that not everyone in my department is 5/2, it was only mentioned in the interview as one of the types of work that the department does, so hopefully this means things will be more flexible for me.
