Dear members
We expect to arrive in Dhahran in a couple months.
I would like to find out what’s the best solution for internet?
Do homes in the Dhahran compound have internet pre-wired?
If not, what would you recommend? Which cell phone service provider has the best speed/signals?
Thank you

I cant comment on Dhahran, but Ras Tanurah's ADSL is pretty dire. 250k on a bad day, 2.5Mb on a good day.
Personally I was lucky enough to get an unlimited 4g with STC (before they discontinued the deal) for 150 SAR per month, but that seems to be capped at around 6 Mb. Thats the one I use personally. My wife has a separate one for Netflix (also on STC) that costs 370 SAR per month unlimited data. Netflix is a hungry beast and can swallow 8Gb of days per hour on high settings. This one is lightning fast and I have seen it clock in at as much as 60 Mb.
STC, Mobily and Zain are your options. STC is the state owned provider and is probably the most reliable of them, but for the home I would suggest to talk with the neighbors when you arrive for the best provider
They are currently installing an STC fibre network on RT camp that should be up and running in the near future. Possibly they are doing the same on Dhahran?
Ypu are limited to 1 sim when you first arrive, so if you need internet you should buy a sim + data package and use your mobile as a hotspot. Once you have your Iqama you can have 2 sims per Iqama.

I believe the fiber to home option is about 250 SAR monthly - but if you look on the STC web site you will see their options.
Prices went up a few years ago - at that time you could get unlimited 4g for about 150 SAR, but the speed was capped 6-10 Mb. The government made the cell companies remove the caps, their response was to increase the prices and introduce data caps.
All depends on what your needs are. You can get 300Gb for 3 months at 300SAR or so which is more than enough for normal use.

Thank you BlueStaff. I think we are so spoiled with unlimited fast speed fibre packages for so cheap In the UK because of compeion that we expect the prices to be similar all over the world but the reality is different
