Coming from the US, can any existing 110V appliances / electronics be used / imported, like TV’s, ect? Replacing everything would be very expensive.

I believe importing 110V into KSA is not allowed. I'd dont know how rigorously it is enforced for personal belongings. I'm also not sure what the current status of housing electrics is on Aramco. Certainly most places in Saudi are all 220V, which will make things explode if you get it wrong, and cost a fortune in step-up transformers. But equally, check your plugs - many are dual voltage these days, particularly with laptops, phones etc.

There is an ongoing programme to convert all on camp homes to 220V. Between it being KSA and the usual contractors that seem to be involved it seems to be a slow and laborious process. Historically 120V electrical equipment carried a premium in Aramco, not so much now.
Most modern electronics are just fine whether on 120V or 220V as the power supplies are dual voltage. TV's, computers, printer etc. generally will be ok.

I don't know what housing you are assigned to. I just moved about a week ago and most of the outlets are 120V. They installed 220v outlets only in one in the living room, one in the kitchen and one in the dining room so it is not many. I shipped most of my 120V appliances from Houston and they are on its way.

I am interested to know if your 110-120V appliances get through the customs check. Based on my readings here in the forum and information (attached on their quotes) I got from 2 shipping companies, these appliances are now banned for import to KSA.

We are interested to know the status on the voltage situation. We are moving from California and the though of replacing all small and big appliances is overwhelming and sounds very costly. For those who moved recently, were you able to bring in any of the appliances from the US (Fridge, Washer, Dryer, TVs, Coffee maker, Kitchen aide mixers, Kitchen Processors, vacuum cleaner etc) At the risk of having those items be confiscated sounds like a big gable too. Appreciate the feedback

I would think the cost of shipping your large appliances would be prohibitive. Going the cash in lieu of shipping option should cover new appliances in the kingdom, that's the route I'm taking.
As far as bringing 110VAC appliances into KSA, I haven't heard of there being any issue with that and for small appliances I've been advised to bring them. I think the issue is that companies that sell appliances can't import 110VAC appliances, but you can bring them as luggage.
I have yet to get a definitive answer on whether my housing in Udhailiya will be 110 or 220. I'm planning to pick up a few 110/220 transformers as well as some 220 appliances from Saco when I arrive in Dammam.

Appreciate the feedback My family came from Canada almost 10 years back, and in Canada we use the same 110v as in the US... we were able to bring a vacuum without issue back then. The house comes with dishwashers and fridges, and the laundry machines we purchased on our own (check out stores like eXtra, or SACO, HomeCentre, etc.) Drying machines are always 220v. For small appliances like hair dryers, you should be fine in Dhahran Main camp older houses have 110v, but I heard the newer houses by law are all 220v. The company installed 220v outlets in addition to the old 110v ones at our house as a result but took a while... I can only speak for 2011ish when there wasn't much care from customs not allowing 110v appliances, but we did have our boxes checked. If you do buy transformers please do not go against the ratings (current/amps) and buy UL certified ones as it is dangerous and a fire-hazard.

Sorry, just logged-in today after my last post before leaving Canada for KSA in Aug 2019. So, to update.. Our shipments (air and sea) arrived and in it was our vaccum cleaner, tv, coffee maker and others. All 110v appliances! I guess it depends on the house assignment you get. Our relocation advisor informed us our house will be converted to 220v in 2024, so we decided to ship our 110v appliances since we'll be able to use those appliances for a while anyway.
