Hi There,
My husband has received an offer and we will be moving to SA at the beginning of next year. Our advisor in the UK has explained that there is no way we (family together) can travel at the same time. He has to travel first and once he has his residence permit issued he will be able to submit the document for the family members to issue a residency visa.
Has anyone here gone through this process, if so, how long did it take for the family to have their visas, I'm a bit concerned as in Aramco's guide it says it could take 3-5 months to complete this process, I think it is quite a long time for us as a family to be apart; also within their guidance it says that his Family status would change if the family doesn't join him in 120 days (4 months!!)
Could you please share with me your experience.
Thanks

Advisor is correct. for me it took 5 month. but it could have been done at 3.5month if i knew the process better. 3 months was my probation period.
if you are married outside UK and if your kids are born outside UK and if your husband degree is from different country. these all need to be attested and verified in respective countries and t hat can take much longer.
for example my co-worker studied in paksitan, married in US, Kids born in Canada. it took him quite sometime to get everything. before his family got the visas

Took me 6 weeks for the Iqama (Ramadan has a habit of making things happen even more slowly than usual in Saudi) and probably 6-8 weeks for the visa paperwork. With a start date of May 22nd, my family joined me 4 months later at the end of September.
Your husband should be able to take a short leave so he can fly over with you guys once everything is arranged. From the moment the yellow visa slip is stamped for you in the Saudi embassy, the clock starts ticking. You have 2 Hijri months to get to Saudi Arabia.
Ramadan this year is May. Ideally all the paperwork needs to be completed and processed by then. The sooner you can get here next year the better. The last thing you want to do is land here in July with the daytime temperatures north of 40c. Better you get here April / May and acclimatise to summer as it arrives.
Truth be told it probably is better that your husband comes over first. It allows time to get things sorted at this end - driving licence, car, schools, doctirs, Internet etc.
There will be plenty of people to guide him through the process of what to do after arrival. We were all in the same boat at one time.
The family status change after 4 months - If he stands his ground with housing that he is just waiting on Aramco to complete the visa paperwork, and you guys will join as soon as it is completed they will leave him there in the house. The status quo is easier than a move from family to bachelor and back to family again.

Thank you for your answers. I have another question. Did you ship your belongings? if so, did you do it through Aramco or on your own? Any advice about this? Thanks

I never shipped anything when we came across - my oldest girl was 22 at the time so she stayed on in the house. My youngest us now at Uni and back living at home also. Apart from that, my wife spends around 100 days per year back in the UK so to keep the house was the sensible option for us.
Shiping is entirely up to you - but I will say that if you choose not to ship and take the cash option it is ample to furnish your house in Saudi once you get here. The Aramco provided furniture is basic. The bedroom sets are reasonable enough, but dining room and living room you will want to upgrade asap.
Shipping could take 1-2 months to get to you. Price wise I don't know what would be better. Certainly I imagine the Aramco organised would be much more straightforward than organising your own.

Sorry for bombarding you with questions, I just have another one. The visa my husband received is valid for 90 days. Do you know when could be the latest day to arrive in Saudi? i.e. can he arrive on the 90th day? or is there any rules about it, do you know? Thanks again for your help!

90 days I guess is 90 days. I would however not like to take a chance and test the system. If he is even 1 hour over then it is highly likely that he would be refused entry.
Anything could happen to put a spanner in the works - the ash cloud in 2010 is a perfect example. Time the arrival to be at least a week in hand.
