JHAH new hires
Joined last month and details of my experience for helping future staff
1. I was hired from the UK for a consultant position. Interview in Feb 17, offered Job verbally but written offer with pay benefits came after 2-3 months (May 17). It took 6 months in total after accepting offer to clear contingencies. Landed in KSA in November 17. Once u accept an offer u will be allocated a Relocation Advisor based in London (except for US/ Canadian candidates)
2. Package offered is based on ur current earnings in home country and will be calculated from your recent payslips and will be compeive with added benefits.
3. It requires huge amount of patience as things move very slow in this part of the world. In addition there are lots of conditions and documentary proof is required including authentication/attestation of certificates and background checks. Once u accept the offer forget about it and carry on with ur normal work till u reach visa approval.
4. Once ur visa is approved you will be advised to resign from ur current job so please don’t resign till this stage. Please check profession ( written in Arabic on visa). If it’s different to ur job le, u will need to reapply. Ur tickets and hotel accommodation will be booked by Jhah including transportation from Airport. JHAH is completely separate from Aramco and u will be received by taxi driver at the airport. Jhah is a private organisation now and not a government body like Aramco.
Once u land in Saudi
6. At immigration make sure ur photo is taken by immigration officials as this will be used in most of the government documents including iqama and driving license. An arrival number is written in ur passport. This is the most important number and u will need it till ur iqama is issued.
7. Buy a Saudi SIM card at the airport (buy STC) JHAH uses STC network and ur calls will be free to STC network but chargeable to other networks. Most of jhah hires will also receive an iPhone with SIM card (STC) for hospital communication after few weeks.
8. For expatriates ur pay starts from the day u board the flight. U will also be paid interim living expenses for upto 30 days after ur arrival if u don’t find a suitable accommodation and live in hotel or apartment. This means in ur second month u will be paid double of ur basic salary.
9. Currently accommodation is not available in Aramco compounds for JHAH staff. There are lots of good compounds with vacant villas. Most of the villas are empty as Aramco has reduced expat staff. In all new expat staff can bargain in these compounds.
10. Bring in ur international driving license as it will be few weeks before u get ur iqama. Without iqama life is difficult.
11. Jhah will help u get a bank account with NCB bank in campus without Iqama.
12. If u need Saudi council license it’s a slow process and without this u won’t be allowed to work. So initial month can be very relaxing.
13. If u r on family status, u can request HR to bring ur family with u. Most of the time they want the new hire to join alone with family visa issued after 1-2 Months.
I hope this helps.
