o all,
I am likely to join Saudi Aramco R&D, Dhahran camp, this summer (GC13). I am presently waiting for my visa stamping. I will be on Asian payroll, although I was hired from the US while I was working there. I am quite eager to join Saudi Aramco. However, my wife and I are skeptical about my wife's professional and social life in Dhahran.
We shall not be able to live on camp due to unavailability of on-camp-housing and have been offered the Rental Assistance Program. But from what I understand, my wife can not drive outside the campus. HR suggested that she can get cabs or hire a driver. But is it a feasible solution for someone to do that every time she decides to go out of the house? I am finding it difficult to imagine...so I am hoping one of you can help us out here to understand how it works in reality over there.
More importantly, my wife is a PhD in Materials Science and has been working as an R&D Scientist in the US for a few years now in one of the Fortune 100 companies. She is willing to move to Saudi Arabia. However, she would hope to get a job in the Kingdom, preferably with Saudi Aramco, in her professional capacity. We spoke to the HR in USA about this, but did not get a very hopeful response. In fact, they said the chances were very slim. However, their response was based on statistics and not on the merit of her qualifications. On the other hand, I read in a few-year-old post from this forum that it is possible for both partners to get a job, based on qualification. So, we are not sure what to expect regarding the prevalent situation. I would be really thankful for someone to help us out here.
