Hi, I am Canadian P.Eng. I received a preliminary offer from Aramco on Global Payroll in Dhahran.
My questions are: 1. I have 28 years combined Canadian and International experience in senior/staff reservoir, completion and production roles, yet Aramco is offer only GC14. I understand GC15 qualifies one for immediate company housing on GP. Could the lack of housing have something to do with the GC offered?
2. Can someone explain how the Protected Exchange Rate works? Right now the FX rate for CDN/USD is disproportionate at 1.4 . The 5 year avee is about 1.05 .
3. Does Aramco pick up the costs for the police checks and notary?
4. Is there a hockey rink in Dharhan or area? Is there a men's league?
Thanks,

o ggbas and welcome to the Forum. Please read the FAQ's and many of your questions will be answered.
1. Yes, it could, but they usually offer as low a GC they think you will accept. You can always counter-offer if that's what you want to do. Housing is usually an afterthought as the organization making the offer usually does not get overly involved or concerned with where you are housed.
2. Search the Forum and you will find more information on this.
3. Ask your recruiter or Relocation Advisor. Typically if Aramco requires you to produce it, they will reimburse you for it. Just submit your receipts.
4. There is a compound in Al-Khobar with an ice rink frequented by expats. Again, SEARCH THE FORUM and you will find this information.

Regarding #1, I have also been told (you should confirm this with your recruiter) that once you cross from GC14 to GC15, you're not eligible for overtime anymore. Depending on job function/schedule, that could actually result in a reduction in net pay. However, I get where you're coming from on the GC15 housing.
Make sure you're happy with the offer in hand before you get on the plane, because you may have a hard time changing things once you're here.
