I've been a AAA member for two years. Thankfully, I have a pretty reliable vehicle. But, the two times I have gone to AAA for small repair issues, they always seem like they don't want to do the work. Today, I went over to ask about getting a plug wire replaced. The main guy there told me to go to a dealer. When I insisted I wanted them to do the work ... (I mean that was why I got a membership in the first place) ... he told me I would need to go get the parts. I asked him, don't you have a "parts runner" to go and pickup needed parts. He finally relented and said they could, but he couldn't tell me when. Wow!
So does anyone have experience with getting their car repaired here?
Do these guys actually work on cars? Do they do a good job?

I have not used them for about 10 years. Every time they worked on the car, they disconnected the battery. Had to have GM come with a laptop to fix it. I use a local guy now who picks up and delivers and consults you before he does anything. He picks up same day you want and delivers usually same day. Worst case next day. He also gives receipts for everything he buys and returns bad parts. Bad news is my iPhone has blue screen disease but if you PM me I know who to ask for his number. Other bad news is I won't be able to find out until after Eid break.
The only real benefit monetarily with AAA menbership is that you can wash your car with sweet water but that is worth a lot. Aside from that, it is easier to get car insurance from them than anybody else and what I really mean is less effort on your part and it is ever so lightly cheaper. I will pay AAA membership with my eyes closed. Great service but, if you are from the the USA, please remember that AAA doesn't mean Automobile Association of America. You are not in the USA. The AAA is a self-directed group and is one of the best in Dhahran.

Also been a member for the past two years and on occasions I had to have something looked at and repaired, had no problems dealing with them. They provided receipts and explained what was wrong/needed. Insurance is a lot cheaper than other companies. They are even willing to show me how to repair/replace some parts that I wanted to do on my own. Great service so far.

How can I get additional information on AAA? Is it in the main camp?

It is a self-directed group and is on camp. Maybe 10 covered bays with lifts, maybe not all with lifts - not sure, for working on cars. Also outdoor drive-up ramps for easy access. Four or six power wash stations for washing with sweet water. Plenty of tools available for loan. A few decent mechanics who will do some work for reasonable fee. You can do it all yourself too. I stopped using them because they insist on disconnecting the battery before doing any work. Unfortunately my car's computer goes dead without battery so has to have an OEM technician come in from Khobar with his laptop to fix it. I use AAA for insurance and car wash. Worth it. I use a reliable mechanic from Thuqbah for repairs. If you are a car IT expert, AAA has even more value. If you are a hard core mechanic, AAA also has value because of the tool shop they have. If you use AAA, be careful with spinners because it is a very popular road and even more so with all th construction in the Hills.
For any group you join, think hard about getting window tinting on the front windscreen. Tinting helps with the heat but the annual sing and replacing of stickers takes a serious toll. Solving the problem is doable but the cure is worse than the disease. One option is to tint all but front windscreen. But that is the most important one.

Many newbies think that AAA is a repair shop to take your car to and get the work done. That particular type of repair shop closed and was to the right of AAA. AAA is a self directed group where members can come work on their own cars and have the tools and equipment to do so. It has evolved into workers there that actually help and will do the work for you, but parts do come from you. Depending on the parts and the workers ability to have transportation to do so, they may agree to go get your part, but just depends on the circumstances and parts required.
The men working at AAA were not hired to repair your cars. They were hired to man the self-directed group shop, just like the workers who man the Hobby Shop, who will assist you with your woodworking and do a few things for you for a fee.
The sweet water car wash and the pressure washer are great benefits to AAA membership. AAA also sells Auto insurance and Renter's Content insurance.
