Good Day Aramcons,
I received some information regarding shipment and cash in lieu options.
I have seen rumblings of "PARTIAL SHIPMENT" a few times in the forum, but the documentation I have seems as though its an all or nothing option.
We aren't planning on bringing a lot with us, especially considering initial furnished housing in Ar Rakah. Maybe our mattress, bikes, and some appliances as well as some creature comforts. Not planning on brining any other really large items though.
We also expect to use our allotment of eboxes.
Is it posible to do a 1/2 sea shipment and some cash in lieu? Apparently I am expected to make my election fairly quickly.
Thanks for any clarifiction.

The election form looks to differentiate a "candidate" election from a "family" election.
Assuming I have the family allotment of 5000kg, is this where I could slip up shipment vs cash?

That is what I did. We took the 3000kg Family Enlement as an air/sea shipment, and took the other 2000kg Employee Enlement as CIL. Worked well for us.

We opted for the same split, but we were told that we can change our minds when the movers come to perform their estimate. Our philosophy is to bring a few pieces of furniture that add a familiar look and feel for the kids, a few bits that we'd have to replace anyway, but otherwise, we plan to make a fresh start.
Moving to Rakah will be downsizing for us, so there's a lot to offload.

Thanks guys, that is what I suspected. Honestly, I don't even see us having 2k to ship sea... the worst will be a new king mattress, bikes, maybe a washer / dryer combo... I am reading the rental washers / dryers aren't very good and buying there is too much. We'll see...
Thanks again for the advice!

I don't know if it is dependent on when you were hired or on which payroll you are on (I am on Global Payroll), or maybe the policy is not being enforced, but the New Shipping Policy Advice that I was given in August (not sure of the exact date it was actually released) says: "A cash in lieu payment option cannot be combined with a - for example, you cannot request cash in lieu for your E Box allowance and also request an actual shipment. You must select cash in lieu for BOTH air and surface shipments, or select an actual air and surface shipment.

You're right; it could be specific to a particular payroll, since different payrolls have different policies regarding families. What you pasted applies to us for a given shipment lot, but it's split into two lots: self and family. One is able to choose CIL or shipping for each lot, if that makes sense.

Certainly, you can decide to go for CIL for yourself and E Box + Surface Shipping for family, or vice versa

Good day!
We just had our shipping evaluation done. We are not bringing much with us. I do have an important question though...
My daughter has a collection of American Girl dolls that are her pride and joy and really the only toys she plays with. Is there a problem bringing them into the country? The shipping agent said that dolls are a no-no. She will be crushed if we cant bring them.
Any thoughts on this?

ToesInTheSand, A couple of thoughts, probably worth what they cost A would recommend that you bring the dolls she really cares about in your personal luggage. Chances are 99% if you put them in your shipped goods, they would make it in, so it kinda depends on how important the 1 % is. You could always bring the most beloved dolls in luggage and the less beloved in shipped freight. My own daughter was an American Girl Doll fanatic when we came (10 years old). Three years later, she could not care less about such "little girl toys". So there's that too. Wutz

Thanks Wutz,
Shes 9 so I expect there are still a couple of years of enjoyment there...even if its only 1 year, its pretty valuable.
There are 4 dolls... so it seems to be better to bring in checked baggage rather than shipment. I will make sure we make space then!
Thanks for the input.

One thing to remember is that you'll be flown here business class, so you get a pretty generous baggage allowance.
I would recommend using dish barrel boxes (rather than suitcases) as at least some of your luggage pieces. We brought several DB boxes and managed to fit tons of stuff in there. The boxes might offer a good place to put your daughter's loot.

CanadianBacon,
What airline did you fly? I know several folks have said they used DB boxes, but they seem to be slightly larger than most of airlines' allowed dimensional inches. We are taking cash in lieu and only bringing checked luggage. I have a nightmare in my mind that I'll get nailed with oversize baggage fees for every box if we use DB boxes. I had been planning on bringing the "large" sized box (18x18x24), but I'd love to squeeze in as much as I can.

Based on recent experience with Emirates, your fear is well justified, but your experience could be completely different. We were initially told over the phone that the extra inches wouldn't be a problem and that I shouldn't expect to pay ovees.
Arriving at the airport in a convoy of 3 large, black SUVs, the skycap (or whatever they're called now) managed to fit everything into two flatbed trollies: one for bags and the other for the 7 DB boxes. The outsourced agent at the check in desk took litte notice of it, but his Emirates supervisor took one look at the DBs and instructed him to attack them with a tape measure.
To make a long story short, we managed to negotiate a reduction in the oversized fees from 7 boxes down to 3, but it could have been avoided altogether.
If you're going to use DBs, I suggest you take a few minutes to cut them down to spec. There are numerous howto videos on YouTube if you run into trouble.

We flew Air Canada/Lufthansa.
As the previous poster recommended, I did cut my boxes down - it was easy to do and they were still super sy afterwards. I used the boxes from Uhaul and they were nice and thick.
The agents didn't pay any attention to the size of my boxes when I checked in, so I could have gotten away without it, but better safe than sorry (and much poorer).
