o all! Does anyone have any insight on the Aramco work environment for expats? Specifically How are expats (Americans) treated? Is there enough work too keep busy? Or too much work? I am sure everything differes from job junction to location, etc. I will be working as a direct hire construction project engineer, if anyone has any experience in that field please let me know.
Thanks Mike

You don't say what business line you will be in but if you go to Project Management, you will be more than busy. Expats of all nationalities are treated very well. The few that don't get treated well are the ones that don't live up to the company's expectations. Some people oversell themselves on their CVs but later can't really do the job. Fortunately they are a very small percentage. The higher the GC you come in, the greater the expectations. You don't have to prove you can do the job - you have to prove you can't. Expats that come in with the atude that they are superior to their coworkers because, why else were they hired?, also do not do very well. Another way to put it is that an expat must earn his disrespect.

Thanks for the reply Bogie! Yes I will be in Project Mangement. I am looking forward to the opportunity. Any input on the social life over there for a single guy? I am 33 with no kids or wife

Thanks for the input on the work environment. Out of curiosity, does one get his own office? GC is 14.

To answer the last two posts:
I am married so do not know the singles scene personally but I understand that there are bountiful social opportunities and activities both within the communities and outside. Some of the consulates have social gatherings from time to time as do some of the other compounds outside.
Offices depend a lot on actual work location so there are locations where GC14 would get an individual office but it is not by policy – only by office setup. By policy, GC14 would not have a private office. I know people in Manifa that are GC 11 and have a private office.
As the company upgrades existing offices or builds new ones, I understand that everything is moving to open office plan. The new Midra tower is all open office and much of the tower building has been converted already. I don't believe this has gone to Abqaiq yet, for example.

Thank you bogiefrommuskogee for the input.
The work is in Engineering Services, so do you happen to know the office set-up there? Do people get their own office or is it open space? GC is 14, but i guess the real difference may come at GC15 and above.

I believe that would be in Al Midra which is open plan. GC 17 would be a private office. Below 17 is open. Not even cubicle really because the parions are much shorter so you can see over them when standing up. I know someone recently promoted from 16 to 17 in Al Midra and he changed from a desk to an office. Older office buildings are converting to open plan if they need to be remodeled. Some spaces in the Tower Bldg as well as EXPEC have been converted already.
Al Midra is a very nice place and the newest construction. It has many useful shops such as all the phone services, several banks, FedEx, Aramex, dining hall, etc. I understand it has its own gym. HR is there as well as all passport and visa services. Women can drive to Al Midra from Dhahran camp but only a couple of ways so you have to learn the routes. The only downside for me is the walk from the car park is a little long for what I am used to.
The open floor plan is intended to increase efficiency and productivity.

Al Midra is a great place to work.. At ground level it is a sort of mini-mall with all sorts of services available.. including coffee shops, nutrition outlet & barber shop!.. There is a huge dining hall and an excellent gym across in NorthPark complex.. Overall you will enjoy working here.

The open plan cubes offer nearly zero privacy. Not only are the walls very low, but they have windows so everyone can see over each other's shoulder even while sitting down. And there are spaces designed for workgroups, so basically one large cubicle that seats four people.
Most private offices are reserved for supervisors and up.
