Firstly can you go to this link www.glassdoor.com.au/Reviews/Sa ... -E7712.htm We are in the last stage of the process, Visa block received, Background Investigation report approved, now just have to submit for the actual Visa. I am concerned by frequency in which some issues crop up on this site. In particular: - Aramco lies & videos are not a fair reflection of life at all
- No Room in camps at all. Aramco is already maxed out
- No chance of career development or pay rises
- Middle Management is a real issue
If this is inaccurate perhaps the website should be contacted? or if it is accurate, I seems moving to Saudi is not a good move? I also appreciate that if people are happy with their role, they wouldn't be inclined to post on a site like this. Thoughts?

I think the glass door Aramco reviews are a fair reflection of the company since they are from varied former employees who have experienced the working situation at Aramco at different times(years), different departments and various situations. Personally I am not surprised with the reviews at all, only concerned with the frequency of the things Sarah has mentioned in her post. Creating unnecessary layers of middle management seems a sticking point as it increases unwanted layers of bureaucracy without improvement in performance. Compensation based on nationality rather than performance is a real deal breaker.

As far as I know people is free to have their own opinion about anything, right? Why contact a site because people didn't have a good experience in Aramco? In here and anywhere in the web you will find points of views. Some people had come and hated so bad they don't even spend a year. There is a looooot of people that would stay forever if they could, but unfortunately age don't forgive, and once you reach 60 you're out, period. As a petroleum engineer myself I have my own opinion about the corporation as oil company and as the place I live now, and probably a very high percentage of the other wives will not agree with me, but hey! is my point of view anyway:
About the videos: Is advertisement, is expected to be made up. Does Beyonce has the abs she has by drinking pepsi with every meal? The size of the facilities is true, the size of the golf courses, the supermarkets, the kid playgrounds, all true. People being the happiest in the world? Some are, some are not, some are sometimes.
No Room in camps, totally true, and that should tell you something. Most newcomers, even very high GCs are arriving to the leased properties, and have to wait 2 years (at the very least) to be able to bid for a house on aramco compounds. Some people with worksite Abqaiq are being assigned directly there, some that will go to Udalliyah are assigned to Abqaiq first and then get a house there. A loooot of people with worksite in Ras Tanura is either in Rakkah, the tower or Radium, in a waiting list for a place there. Dhahran workers will be in Rakkah if they are US passport holders or high GC (15+), the rest in Radium, there will be a new leased property in a few months and most of the misplaced families in Radium (large families in tiny units) will be send there, and probably some newcomers will end up there too.
No chance of career development: This company is Saudi property, and as such is and will be managed by the locals. They occupy the highest positions as is expected. Expats are hired for a specific position and are expected to help to teach and develop junior Saudies. In my husband department there are very senior expats that got here many years ago with a lower rank and had been given more responsabilities, but I heard is not always the case. If you are coming expecting to become a supervisor or more in 5 years, better think twice. Pay rises? In previous years there had been rises every year, with current oil prices might not happen this year, but as soon as the market improve I think they will continue. GC increment, on the other hand are a totally different thing, can take maaany years to get another GC because as I said, you are coming for a particular position, and that position have specific GC and responsabilities attached to it.
Middle Management is a real issue? Locals are being trained to learn how to run their company, maybe there are issues, but, at least our experience is positive, my husband's management line is full with very highly prepared folks, technically strong and decent nice people. There is a cultural difference so you have to take that into account.
My thinking was, is impossible to make a decision based in other people opinions. We came with low expectations and so far we all are very happy. I know lots that think the same way, lots that don't, that is the way it is.

OK, let's take those one at a time.
Aramco lies & videos are not a fair reflection of life at all
I think I've said this before in previous posts but the videos do tend to show only the good things about life here. However, nothing in them is untrue (at least, not in the ones I have seen). I don't think anyone should be surprised to find that a bunch of recruitment videos do not set out to highlight the drawbacks to life here. No Room in camps at all. Aramco is already maxed out
Anyone who has looked at this site cannot fail to be aware of this, it has been discussed at length.
No chance of career development or pay rises
The chances of career development may be somewhat limited but it is inaccurate to say there is no chance. Pay rises are pretty much standard, I have had one every year since I've been here and so has everyone else I know.
Middle Management is a real issue
Possibly, although it's a rather vague statement - I'm not quite sure exactly what it is supposed to mean. I would also say it varies considerably from department to department.
