Hi Everyone,
I have been offered a job with Aramco and will be temporarily housed in Ras Tanura to start. I am hoping I will move to the Dhahran compound eventually.
I am a single male. I wanted to know if anyone could give me some idea of the expected cost of living, excluding rent, on a monthly or annual basis.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

ChiTown36, Rent depends on what accommodation you have, but in general it is quite low (about one third of what you pay for similar accommodations in the suburbs of Chicago).
Other costs of living can be very low (if you do your own cooking with local ingredients) to very high (if you go to Bahrain every weekend and stay in a fancy hotel and eat in fancy restaurants). So it all depends on who you are and how you want to live.

Excluding rent. Anywhere between 800 USD to 8000 USD a month and more. You're a single male, so I wouldn't be surprised if you drop your entire salary going to the bars in Bahrain and Dubai every weekend. It all depends on the individual. Some bachelors have weekend pads in Bahrain and they spend $1000 at a minimum just to rent them. Add the drinking and the girls and you're up to $10,000 a month if you can't control the buzz. However, $800-900 should be enough to live off if you work, eat, drink, put gas in your car, pay phone and cable bills.
