Hi Moderators,
I live in Australia with my wife and 4 sons (13,9,8 & 3yrs old). I am a Senior Project Engineer and I have received an Aramco Offer this week and have read most of the relevant material.
I have been offered:
Position: Engineer II
Salary code: 13,
Work location: Dhahran,
Status: Family,
Residents (age 12+): 3 (me, my wife & 13yr old son)
Residents under 12: 3
Nationality: Australian
In Kingdom Educational Assistance Plan for my 4 children: $65,200
Rental Assistance Allowance: $65,200
– Great!
However, we have tentatively been allocated to in camp company housing at Abqaiq for the first 2 years, based on availability.
I’ve been on your AramcoExpats.com site and people report that the bus trip from Abqaiq to Dhahran is 2.5 to 3hrs round trip. It leaves at 5:30am and returns at 5:30pm
ARAMCONIANS - COULD YOU PLEASE ADVISE[/u]:[/b]
Could anybody already working in Dhahran and either living in the Abqaiq camp or living in non-Aramco housing near Dhahran tell me their experience and advice about where to live. Should I live on-camp in Abqaiq and endure the 11-12hrs away from my family on work days or live off-camp and find my own accommodation and schooling near my work location at Dhahran?
The main incentives for pursuing a position with Aramco are:
• Reducing the time that I am away from my family (outside of on-site work periods) to <10hrs a day (I am currently away from home ~10.5hrs at my current job, here in Perth, Australia;
• Enjoying the Aramco on-camp life style (all amenities and facilities close to home, free and in a safe environment);
• Becoming part of the Aramco on-camp community (making friends and taking part in the community events)
Unless I can manage to secure accommodation (on or off campus) reasonably close to my work location, I do not want to waste everybody’s time and resources processing my offer. Plus, I do not want to resign my secure job here, only to be told at late notice that I will have to endure a 3hr commute for at least 2 years, before I can apply to be re-housed.
My wife and I have done some research and it seems that it seems that we can secure private gated compound accommodation in Khobor for ~(SR)175,000-230,000 (USD$47k-$61k) (www.rightcompound.com/DANA--NADA-COMPOUNDS-84 ). This is within the USD$66k budget of the rental assistance allowance.
Could you please clarify:
1. If I go ahead and accept the offer and opt for Aramco on-Camp housing, when I am allocated housing (typically on the week of my arrival?), if it is >30mins commute from my work, can I opt to secure off campus accommodation closer to my work location?
2. Does Aramco assist in selecting and securing off-campus accommodation?
3. If we do live off-campus, can we still use the Aramco campus facilities – medical, recreational etc.?
4. If we do live off-campus, can my children still go to an Aramco school?
5. We have noted that there is a new compound, soon to be opened in DHA near the DT. Is there any chance that we could be allocated housing there?
6. Given my situation, what would you recommend for me to do?
I hope you can answer my questions.
I am excited at the prospect of working for Aramco at Dhahran, but do not want to do this if it means a lifestyle that involves me being an absent father and husband.
Regards,
Steve
