Hi,
Just wondering whether all the 5 year olds living in Rakah are in Kindergarten in Dhahran Hills school or are any in KG4 in Rakah? I'm a little concerned about putting my 5 year old on a bus to school every day.
Do any Dads from Rakah drop their kids to school in the mornings?
We are arriving next week.
Thanks!

We arrive the week after you with ages three and five. I've been told on this forum that Kindergarten was originaly planned for Rakah but has not happened. I'm also concerned about what sounds like a VERY long day for a five-year-old considering he won't be coming home for lunch like the DH kids and he'll catch the early bus in and the late bus out.
Many have suggested that spouses catch the later bus to DH and drive the car to meet them for lunch at the rec center/snack bar and/or meet them after school and head to the pool. I guess you'll have to see how it goes and let us know:)

I don't know of any Kindergarten aged children who stay in K4 owing to the bus journey. Best to wait until you get here and see how things work in practice before you make any decision on this.

Hi, we actually did place our 4 year old in the 3k last year and he is now 5 in the 4k. However we were one of the first families in the school when it was smaller so I am not sure if it will still be allowed. Our reasons were not just for the bus situation. Our sons birthday is very late in the summer close to the cutoff date. He had also been in preschool in the states and his teachers had advised that he would need an extra year of preschool before entry K. We spoke with the preschool teacher once we arrived at Rakah and had her observe him for a week as well to see where he would fit the best. So I would suggest asking once you get here. You have to register them again in the schools once you get here so it does not hurt to ask.

Has the age-range for kindergarten changed? At our orientation at ASC, the presentation slide for the school listed that children had to have their sixth birthday before either Aug or Sept 1 (I can't recall the month, sorry!) for entrance to kindergarten for the 2014/15 academic year. Or did I read that wrong or see a slide full of typos?

The cut off is 1st September. For Kindergarten then must be 5 years old on this date to enter (and 4yo for K4 and 3yo for K3 etc)

Okay, that must have been a typo in the slide. One of the other guys in our orientation session noticed it as well!

Hi,
I will be arriving at Rakkah in January 2015. I was hoping someone could help me work out which school year my kids will be assigned to?
I’ve researched the forum and think I know the answer but could do with a double check from someone on the ground as my relocation advisor is not 100% certain.
One of my kids will be 3 on 01 September 2015 and another will be 4 on 01 September 2015.
Does this mean my 3 year old will be placed into 3K and my 4 year old into 4K in September 2015?
Thanks in advance!
