If all goes well with BI and medical, supposedly my date is 12/31
Work location Dahran. I am an engineering specialist, GC15, on global payroll. I am going on bachelor status, leaving my wife and kids in their natural habitat.
What can I currently expect for accommodations ?
there is an option to live outside Aramco, and from what I gather the allowance for this is rather generous. I read that most places take a year rent in advance. is this allowance paid in advance, otherwise this option might be less attractive.

I will send you an email with an example of housing soon. My recommendation is to take the Aramco provided housing first. Then you can decide if you like it and if it is convenient. Once you move off camp, it may be harder to move back on with the housing shortage. You will be able to get on the bid list and bid on a 2BR bachelor townhouse.

From what I can tell looking at the IR manual, the Rental Assistance Allowance (RAA) is paid as a lump sum. Although it is not specifically stated, I would assume it is paid up front.

The Saudi housing allowance is paid once a year in January. If you are to get a housing allowance at another time during the year, then it's pro-rated. I would assume it would be the same for the global payroll employees too. I would think it makes it easier on the company to pay everyone's housing allowance at the same time.
However, I agree 100% with vpainter that you should take Aramco housing first if you can. Then, you can decide if moving off camp is what you want to do.
