Hi,
I have received an offer from SA and the base salary is considerably lower than what I am currently receiving. When I do the comparison of the SA offer vs. my current salary I end up ahead from a cash perspective after taxes. Can anyone provide any experience or knowledge if they have renegotiated their base salary to try and get it more in line with their Australian salary?
Thanks in advance for any input.

What do you mean by considerably? +/-5% is quite normal.

Unfortunately, the difference on the initial offer between my base and the base offered was greater than 30% difference. Of course once you take account of the other things like it being tax free you do end up ahead. But SA has come back with a revised offer which I have accepted. Now the next phase in the process.

If you have researched and know the salary range for your profession then I urge you to ask for more.......it IS possible......but puts the ball into their court. They may revise the offer or withdraw the offer on a case by case basis.. i say go for it.
Life is not all about money........lifestyle in OZ is way way better than here. Saying that....if you bring a young family then the 'other benefits" come into play....free medical, very cheap housing......free education for kids...etc.....5-10 year plan etc......worth thinking about i am from sydney

Saizac, Congrats on the revised offer. Do you mind sharing how much % improvement they did offer in the end? I am on similar boat, Canadian Global Payroll and the initial offer dropped my base more than 25%.

At the end of the day they did it increase slightly. Not as much as I would have liked but when you take all the other benefits like tax free and the flights it ended up meeting my minimal amount I was looking for. I felt that I did not have to go back again, but if it was a job in Australia I would not have accepted due to the low salary base. Good luck in your negotiations.

They came back with very slight increase as well. There was still quite big gap with my current base. I work in the US but am a Canadian national. Yeah you are right the overall is still not too bad, just not as big of gain. I am still sitting on it. May or may not take it.
Thanks for sharing. As I posted in another post it seems that they are offering lower than base for many people here in the states on US payroll as well. According to the recruiter it was not the case prior years. It was either match it or slightly higher or lower.
