I am moving in late september and just wondering if some can explain how good is the tower provided internet?
Will i be able to use skype?
Does each apartment has its own wireless router or is it a shared internet?
Also has any one tried stc or mobily 4g router and which one is better?
Sorry for asking so many questions but you guys are my first and last resort for such information.
Many thanks and kind regards,

space99,
No problem to answer.....internet is provided at Tower - shared. Although we continue to hear that improvements are being made the current state is unsatisfactory. Many, if not most, have now resorted to a 4g router - either STC, Zain or Mobily. I'm not sure which is better...our download speed depends on time of day (STC).... We are using FaceTime with fairly good results and I've heard others are on Skype.

many thanks for the information. I think the DT guide given to me by AOC states that internet is fibre optics at DT and can be upgraded to higher speed/bandwidth if you pay more and i think same thing is mentioned for TV package (from OSN) that you can upgrade it to get more channels. Do you know if this is factually correct and these adjustments can be made if one is willing to pay for these?
Many thanks and kind regards,

Nemo, so is there no possibility to get dsl or fibre connection? How is the speed of 4g with netflix or youtube?
What about TV package? Can it be changed? Upgraded?

This is what it says on the Dhahran Tower brochure:
"A fiber optic Wi-Fi connection with a maximum speed of 512 kpbs is provided. If you wish, you may increase the bandwidth for a modest additional fee."
Nemo, there isn't an option to upgrade? 512k, at least for most people who aren't doing their minute web browsing is really slow.

Even if there is no way to upgrade the DT internet, Is there a possibility to get your own landline based broadband from STC?
I am not sure whether 4g / 3g wireless internet works better than or equal to landline broadband / fibre or not.

space99,
It is easy to upgrade the OSN TV package. We had a recordable PVR installed (500 SAR) and for a reasonable fee we now have much better package. You should be able to see the package options on OSN website. Once here it can be arranged thru reception, I understand the installer lives in our building.
As for the internet, we have the STC 4g router and it is consistently better that the Tower wi-fi.

I think the tower's wifi getting worse everyday. Who could live with 1mbps in year 2015? I've tried with the portable modem with STC, also sucks. I'm losing hope the tower management going to do anything with the internet speed anyway.
Any of you know which provider gives the best speed? My unit is facing NSH if it makes any difference
