We have a somewhat large personal library: about 900 books after we toss out the truly offensive ones (any religious books). Literature (no romance novels), lots of history, biographies, some art books, very little poetry or philosophy... We have a few first editions of value, but those we plan to hand carry. Does anyone have any experience importing lots of books for personal use? We do seriously read a lot. We haven't had a TV in a decade. No, E-readers aren't an option. Looks like the only other things in our shipment will be a few art pieces to go on the walls, two bookcases and sports equipment. We'd be taking cash in lieu if it wasn't for the books.

When we came, we also brought a large book selection. Customs sent 6 of the book boxes in our shipment to the Ministry who looked over the books and then returned them to us. We did not lose any of the ones we brought. You are correct to be concerned about content. We have a friend whose archeology book confiscated because of pictures of statues in it. Others have had pictures blacked out with a black magic marker or the offensive page torn out.
I recommend: do not bring any book you would not want to lose or have damaged.
I would put labels in each book with:
your name and badge number C/O Saudi Aramco Compound you are going to KSA
You can use removeable file folder labels if you do not want to put a permanent label in your books.
