Hi all
Some previous posts indicate that it is more favourable to import your vehicle in Saudi than to actually purchase one once you get there.
Has anyone imported a vehicle from the UK? Any information or pointers to good shippers and expected costs would be appreciated.
Alternatively, I also have the option to ship from Toronto, Ontario - similar information for this option would also be appreciated.
Thanks!

I would check that you can legally use RH drive cars here before doing anything

It would be a LH car from the UK - plenty available and lots of specialist dealers in the UK selling them....

I am not sure what you have seen suggesting that importing a car is better - but am curious to know. There is a wide selection of dealers here and the price for a new car is much cheaper then in the UK. However, we noticed that the discount on a 2nd hand was much less, so these are a bit dearer but not so much that would offset the cost of shipment and customs.
Given that you would have to fund the import yourself, before you commit I would check: - what documents you need (driving licence, iqama etc) - what restrictions or additional tariffs might be imposed if you have not owned the car (for long) before you are importing) - cost of buying the same car in kSA (lots of ads on the web should give you a feel)

From the U.S. definitely good to ship your own car if it has a clear le and under 5 years old. The shipping is much cheaper than buying a car here. Many bring a car and buy a second car once here.
There is info about car shipping in a post under Frequently Asked Questions.

If you're talking about more favorable monetarily, people are comparing the cost of shipping a vehicle you already own, as opposed to buying a new one when you get here.
If you're talking about buying a new vehicle and then shipping it, then there is no financial gain - especially if you're talking about the UK, where as far as I remember, vehicles are more expensive than here (or for that matter almost anywhere in Europe or the US).
