Hi, I need help from Canadian folks in Aramco or anyone who had experience dealing with Aramco Schools. I am from Ontario, Canada and my 2 kids have just finished grade 3 and grade 5 going to next grades in September.
For grade 5 child, I submitted his provincial school results of grade 5,4 & 3 as well as standard test, EQAO, result of grade 3 but Aramco schools deferred admission pending local assessment once he will be there. They asked for grade 5 standard test result but in Ontario EQAO is only conducted in grade 3, 6, 9 & 10. I repeatedly explained this to school but they are saying they do not understand the school system and have to assess English language and academic ability once he is there.
They also deferred admission of grade 3 kid since his standard EQAO test result of grade 3 will only be available once school reopens in September. There is no guarantee of admission after local assessment and they explained option of local international schools in case Aramco schools will not accept the kids. There is also no guarantee of EAP.
Surprisingly, SAES doesn’t understand the school system of Canada as I know lots of Canadians moved there with kids recently. Do all Canadians go through the same deferral admission and local assessment process? Any Canadian who went through the same process? I do not want to jeopardize kid’s education in this process as in order to move there, I have to resign from my current job and move family before Aramco can make an admission decision after assessment.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just so you know, even U.S. kids are assessed once they are here for placement. Since many public U.S. schools are not on the level of the schools here.
If your child speaks English and is a good student in your school, they probably won't have any problem with the assessment and acceptance. Aramco has to tell you about having the alternative international schools because they must in case for any reason your child was assessed to be unable to function in the school system. Most of the time that is due to special needs that Aramco schools do not provide or the student's English language skills would prohibit them from functioning in the schools.

Thanks for reply Vpainter.
As per my relo, I am likely going to Abaqiq and the issue is the commute from Abaqiq to Dhahran for any international school just in case. As far as I know, this is going to be an hour drive each way.
Both of my kids have entire education in Ontario government schools and logically English language skills shouldn’t be the issue as English is the only language in schools (except for French Immersion). Apparently, the issue is standard test as they are expecting standard test results of every grade but in Ontario standard tests are conducted in few grades only (grade 3, 6, 9, 10).
All of the Canadian applicants from Ontario and most of the Canada should be in the same situation. I am wondering if I can provide any other supportive document/letter for school to reconsider the admission. Any input or suggestion from memebers?
Regards

Any Canadian fellow who went through the school admission process for kids? Appreciate if you can share your experience here or send me a PM. Is there anything I can do to satisfy Aramco school’s standard test requirements? Appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi Rockies,
Thanks for sharing the info. You are right this seems a normal process and while I am sure kids will have no problem taking up the test, I just was trying to get some certainty before moving and was wondering whether I had missed something. I am also likely going to Abqaiq and as far as I know there is no international school in Abqaiq just in case.
Thanks again.
Naveed

I have read this thread and would like to bring it back to life. I would appreciate any recent experience or feedback. I have submitted all of my kid's existing report cards (Calgary) and Aramco completed admission assessment and assigned my elder girl to the same grade 8 that she is currently in. The cause provided is SAES age admission rules. She was born in October and the cut month is Septmeber or so. We feel its a hard hit for a kid to repeat same grade even if I try to suger coat it explaining cirriculum differences. I don't know if the decision is definitive, as the grade placement will be finalized after the SAES assessment once in country. The boarding school option is off the table at this stage but we are considering sending her to off camp international school if that will gain her the year. ADS website isn't explist about this point. Anyone been on this situtation before? what happened? and what do you suggest?

You can normally request your child to be evaluated if you don’t agree with the grade placement. I’d suggest you meet with the principal when you arrive and request an evaluation. Note that 9th grade class size is usually smaller as most kids head off to boarding school. You may also want to apply to American School Dhahran as a plan B.
