Hi,
Can someone advise on this? I will be on bachelor status working in Dhahran, arriving in the next month or so. My questions are:
In general, how is the option of living out of Aramco camp as a bachelor and family? Later if I bid for Aramco family house but unsuccessful, can my family with 6 years kid be allowed to move to KSA? I read here before that acceptance to school is prerequisite to family house or the other way around. Aramco school and home school are all viable options to us.
If I stay out of camp, will I still be eligible to use the facilities in main camp, mainly the gym, pool, and bowling alley?
What's the ballpark price for bachelor renting (1 bedroom) outside the camp, within half an hour driving from the Dhahran office?
If I bid for Aramco camp house later, do I put myself at disadvantage by living outside camp compared to those already in Aramco camp but bid for main camp house?
I would appreciate your inputs on this,
MS

If you choose not to take the Aramco assigned house and live off camp, yes I think you would be at a disadvantage when trying to relocate later back into the camps. If you live outside Aramco housing your children are not eligible to attend Aramco schools.
Your children must be accepted by the Aramco schools prior to them receiving a visa. Or you are asked to sign a form stating you are responsible for getting your children enrolled into a different school somewhere. Once here if you choose to homeschool you can do so, homeschooling is not an official option, but is allowed. Although all the support groups for homeschooling are not available in KSA or Aramco that you would have back home.
Anyone with GC 11+ Aramco ID may use the facilities in any Aramco compound. Below GC 11, have their own recreation facilities that can be used with an Aramco ID.
Do not know prices for bachelor housing outside camp, but have heard that most places ask for 6 months to a year's rent up front.
I recommend you take the assigned housing first. Then if you want to look for outside camp housing you can do so at your leisure and find what you want or you may discover you want to keep the Aramco housing.
I sent you an email.

Thank you vpainter. As a bachelor, it may not be too bad living off camp. But if that gives me an disadvantage when applying for Aramco family house later plus the complication of Aramco school application, maybe it's just too convoluted like a trap set up by myself. I think your advise is excellent that I should take the assigned Aramco house and think of other options later. Moving to such a different country is already an ordeal, we should stay away from any other headaches.
thanks again for your reply, also your emailed messages. They are all very helpful.
