Linked to this, has anyone recently opted for cash in lieu and simply just paid for several extra checked in luggage items instead?
I think this is a much more practical and prudent approach - especially given the housing situation (to pack or not to pack - that is the question...).
How many extra checked in items do KLM/Qatar Airways allow?
Thanks!

If you are the adventurous type and believe those who have suggested that high quality furniture, electronics and even cars are readily available if not in Dhahran/Khobar/Dammam, then Bahrain, UAE and wherever you want to visit in europe, then Cash in-lieu plus the extra cash from selling your big ticket items before coming is a no-brainer.
Taking cash in-lieu still enables you to ship personal effects, but you get to pocket whatever funds are left over.
We're not big shoppers, but the idea of sending my spouse into the region's markets and malls with the bulk of the cash in-lieu funds plus the settling in allowance sounds pretty thrilling and hopefully balances some of the anxiety of preparing to move to the far side of the world.

The question still not answered, how they are calculating the cash in lieu I understand it depends on from where you are coming but anyone has the experience, please share

It depends on your point of origin. If you ask your relocation advisor they will give you an approximate figure.

Goatlast, your question about calculation has been answered previously on the forum. Please take your time to do a search for cash in lieu and find the post.

Shammal,
Dear friend, Could you please explain me how the cash in lieu works. My relo sent me a matrix for the cash in lieu allowance with some figures on it per categories.
Based on that matrix, i suppose i am eligible to choose the 2nd option which is the "Candidate and family departing (0 children)" with the Total Enlement Amount to be splitted in "Air Enlement Amount" and "Surface Enlement Amount" respectively. I am going to leave first and then my wife will join me in KSA after 3 months.
So based on that scenario, could my wife choose the shipment option for our belongings and furniture from her point of origin and from my side to choose the cash in lieu allowance the moment i will land in KSA in order to buy home appliances, etc ? Would that be possible for me and for her?
thank you

Goatlast, Keep trying with your Relo. Besides the matrix, you can request he/she to get you a calculation from Aramco people, so you can have a number with more confidence to the amount you will get in CIL.
