Hi I have job offer with family status. One of my friend who worked in the Middle East suggested to me that before you leave for kingdom, you should get advise from tax expert and make sure that your tax residency status is non resident for tax purpose. Could any Aussie be able to suggest tax advisers in Melbourne caters for Aussie expats working in the Middle East. My residency situation would be I join initially on bachelor status and wife join after one year. My two sons 19 years and 16 years are not planning to move.

We are going over on family status with young family and have been told by numerous tax experts we will be non residents.
Your situation may be different with wife staying back but it is more than likely you will be non rez and she a resident for tax purposes. If you come back to Oz a few times a year I am told you can run into issues. Best way around that in year 1 is to meet the family in singas, dubai, etc and only return once per year to Oz.
In any case, this is a simple question for any tax professional but I suspect your initial bachelor status is only period where you could be a resident for tax.

Aussie_7,
Hi, this is our understanding too. If you leave the country within the first 6 months then you will be considered a non resident in Australia. Have you guys already left? We're planning to leave next month..please pm your contact details if you're still in Oz
