My initial feelings ,,, the compound is quite boring and dull place......not a lot of activities......communities dont mix/interact with each other.very hot and humid even in the evenings.............

aberdeenuk, Hang in there - you've arrived at about the single toughest time to come. Beginning of summer, so you won't see nice weather for half a year (but when November finally comes around, you'll think you're living in a resort it's so nice). Almost any family that can leave has left after school ended, and half the dads are out too. The dads that do stick around mostly hang around with existing friends or take care of projects that there isn't time to work on when the family is about.
I think you will find that when your family joins you, you will end up with a lot more friends through the wife and kids. We met the families that we are closest to now because their daughters are friends with my daughter at school. The husbands are both working in totally different areas than me, so we probably would never have met otherwise. The other way to make friends is through activities, most of which are outdoors and most of which are either suspended or much reduced in the hot summer months.
So hang in there, give it time, and eventually you'll wonder how you're ever going to find time to do all the social things you want to do.

Yes, you came at a bad time. A lot of people go on vacation during the summer (July and August), so the camp is probably more empty than normal and most of the self-directed groups don't schedule any activities during July and August. Once school starts, you should find a lot more activities and groups to join. Spend your free time now going shopping and getting settled.

Aberdeenuk,
So you have been there a few months now, I wanted to know if your experience has changed at all. Note, I recognize it is likely still quite hot (so most activities are still limited) and most of your neighbours may only have come back a short time ago.
I hope you are hanging in there.
