The groups are called Self-directed groups. Go to the Community Information Center and get a list of the self-directed groups in UDH.

Self directed groups are open to all employees GC 11+ and some are open to all GC's.

Ace, Well now, it seems to me that someone called "Ace" posted that two of the advantages are "to meet new people and have a better social life." And just in case vpainter's reply wasn't clear (though I would say it was) SDG's are open to all nationalities.

During the summer months, most of the self-directed groups don't hold meetings or activities because so many people are traveling. In September, all the groups will be active again. I suggest you stop by the CIC office where you can pick up membership forms for the different groups. You will then know who to contact about joining each group.

What is fun about being a group member ? I mean I don't want to be as if I am at work but outside the building boundaries. Do we have dance groups for example ? I want something fun

I think the general idea is to join a group involved in an activity that you consider is fun - or at least that you find interesting. What is captivating and diverting to one person, might not be to another. As mentioned earlier, you can get a list of groups from the CIC and it's up to you to choose the activity or activities you find interesting. Finally, if there's nothing that piques your interest you can form your own group, if you can find enough like-minded people (it requires 25 people to form a new SDG).

This is good. I am just a very lonely person and I wanna have friends. I can not afford membership in any group.

What do you mean you cannot afford membership in any group? most of the groups are only 50 riyals to join, and believe me, you get way more than that out of being a member from the events, trips, and gifts you will get. All of the self-directed groups are heavily funded by recreation. I think the most expensive group to join is the golf club and I think it's 300 riyals? I'm not sure, but if you enjoy golf, then pay the money and join! Maybe you would be interested in joining the Arabic Culture group. It's a men-only group with Arab and non-Arab members. They also teach Arabic. I don't think there's any sort of dancing groups for adults...only dance class for girls and ladies (fitness). There is a bowling group. Maybe that would be fun for you? lots of men and women in that group. 50 riyals to join. There's a fitness group that's mixed, men and women. There's also a photography group. there's the arabian automobile association too. There's a woodshop as well if you're in to crafting things. We also have a horse stable. Maybe you have to try something new.

Ace, you have been told where to find friends. Now it is up to you. There will not be any more posts on this topic.
