Good Day,
As a Canadian with 3 kids, we will both be on the bus each day. Is it possible for me and the kids to ride the bus to work and school together?
From Canada.

The work bus leaves earlier than the school buses. Moms can ride the school bus. There are adult monitors onall school buses.

Thanks - how long is the bus ride?
Also, if kids have after school activities, is it possible for me to ride the bus back with the kids?

Depending on the traffic 30 - 35 minutes. It is my understanding moms can ride the school bus. You can email the contacts I sent you. They will have first hand information. There are also regular buses between DHA and Rakah throughout the day and evening.

Thank you - are there work buses between Ras Tanura and Dhahran?
The only reason I ask is that my kids won't have to take the bus to school. I am not worried about safety but more about wasted time. Currently my kids go to after school here in the USA and losing 1.5 hours per day is a lot for them. For me, I don't mind a longer commute. I can read, iPhone, etc.

Yes there are work buses. But RT is full. Their residents are also being housed in Rakah. ABQ might be a choice, same distance from DHA as RT but in the opposite direction.
But no one gets to request housing. It is assigned depending on the availability of housing you are eligible for by GC and number of children. Assignments are usually made the week of your arrival.

Vpainter My hubby moved into dhtower on Thursday he works in DHA, initially we were told Abqaiq. we are not sure whether this is permanent or temp while a house is made available, the children and I will hopefully be joining him by the end of August. 1. Do you have any info on what the plan is for the children at dhtower regarding school, I am assuming they will be going to the main camp for school like the children from Rakah. 2. What happens with the children due to attend K4, I have twins who will be commencing in September and I am not keen on them taking the bus without me. 3.Do you know if we can access all the facilities and activities in DHA, if we can I am happy to go to the gym, coffee shops or join in some activities whilst they are in K4 4. Also am I right in assuming that the children can join activities/clubs on the main camp
Any information you have would be great, I am expecting Hubby will be very busy for the next week or two so may not be able to hunt people down to ask questions.

Aramco policy is that parents cannot ride the school buses. An exception might be made for the first day or so that your child is going, in order to familiarise themselves with the route. I work at the school my children attend and Aramco will not let me ride the bus with them, which means I have to arrange alternative transport for us all. It's hard on the little ones especially. The bus monitors do keep an eye on them, although I can appreciate it's not the same as having Mum on board.

Waywood, you are correct that moms in DHA, RT, ABQ and UDH cannot ride on the school buses.
Aramco made an exception when Rakah opened and moms could ride the bus. Now that Rakah has a lot of children and are filling up the buses, the moms might not be able to ride the bus and the bus monitors watch over the children.
More than likely the same exception will be made for moms in the Dhahran Tower as it first begins. The moms who really want to ride can apply to be a bus monitor, then they will be on the bus every day with their children.
aussie hopeful, be proactive and apply immediately to be the bus monitor if you arrive prior to school starting in the fall. Since there hasn't been school bus service yet, bus monitors will not be in place yet.

aussie hopeful,
Yes you will be able to access all facilities in DHA and RT, ABQ and UDH with your Aramco ID.
Your kids and you can join any groups or clubs in DHA.
You must apply for the PreK4 program, so do so upon arrival, it fills up quickly. There are also private preschools in DHA, you can find by word of mouth. Contact me when you arrive and I will assist you to get connected with the Ladies from DHA and Rakah.

Is there any truth to the rumor that they are planning to open a kindergarten within the Rakah compound so that at least the 5/6 year olds are not having to do the long bus rides and long days?

It was being considered when the compound first opened. No decision that I know of has been made.

akapur448, At least some of them do, I'm not sure if they all do. One would assume they assign buses with those facilities to the longer routes.
