Hi,
Just wondering if all the houses have top loader washing machines or do any of them have front loaders? Not sure whether to bring ours with us.
Also, for those who already live there, has anyone managed to make space for a "play area" downstairs for their kids?
Thanks

All washing machines are top loader.
Yes, many household have set up a play space for their children. How and where they have done this varies widely. I suggest you wait until you come here and see what others have done.

If you have a front loader and want to bring it, you can.

I have only ever used a top loader in the US when I was visiting with family and to be honest I didn't find it very good.
Maybe this was just that particular machine, but I don't want to sell my front loader and then regret it.
Any feedback on the top loaders in Rakah would be appreciated. Are they any good?
Thanks

I thought it was a universal truth that top loaders are useless :-)
I think that you would regret not bringing your front loader!

Hi,
I should be hosted at Ar-Rakah and have seen in other threads that vpainter has sent the layout per email. Could i get it as well please?
More generally, in Aramco houses, are there any cupboards? I am asking that question because I have a few shelves and I may not bring all of them if there is enough stoe place?
Thanks a lot afor help.

There are a lot of cupboards in the kitchen in Rakkah and some in the laundry hallway. We are using company top loader washer and front loader dryer. I hope that when (if) we buy our own someday (assuming we move to Dhahran) I hope to get temperature controlled washer or at least seriously consider getting one. As for shelving, there is an ikea and saco world here. We have shelving from both...but if you have space and weight and like your shelves you might be glad to have them. If you use company furniture in Rakkah there are several dressers with drawers, if you like that style.

We are moving in a few weeks and have a dilema. Our Cal King Matress set needs replacement. We are debating, should we buy it here in US and have it shipped in our surface shipment or buy it in KSA? Appreciate any perspectives.

More choices in the U.S. But you can get mattresses here. Ikea, Serta, Mattress World, King Koil, and several others. You will definitely need to know the cm dimensions of what size mattress you want, some stores do not know them as King, Queen, etc. We learned that the hard way one year. Told King Koil we wanted a Queen size and got a Saudi size that wasn't any we knew. LOL! Never found sheets to fit that mattress. Later we have bought a Cal King from Ikea.

The names are confusing as US and European sizes are different for same name: US Twin 99 x 191 cm UK Twin 91 x 191 cm
US Double 137 x 191 cm UK Double 137 x 191 cm
US Queen 152 x 203 cm UK Queen 152 x 196 cm
US King 198 x 203 cm UK King 183 x 198 cm
So wherever you buy your mattress, buy your sheets. It you bring a US king, you might have difficulty getting a bedframe to fit it. We had to raise the frame support on our kingsize (frame bought here) so that the mattress could have out over the edges a bit. We import sheets. Also, if you have a duvet, buy your duvets and covers in the same country.

Folks, Thanks for all the information. We are new arrivals & this is our 2nd week in Rakah. The Rakah residents are very welcoming We have had a chance to visit the Sacoworld, Hyperpanda & Dhahran Mall. Most of everything is available here, maybe not the same brands as back home but it surpassed our expectations in terms of availabilty of things.
