o - my husband just received his congratulatory letter and is waiting on final offer. In the mean time, I am trying to gather record documents to keep the process moving smoothly. We currently homeschool our two oldest children (entering 5th and 7th grade), but hope to put them in school when we arrive. I do not have report cards for them but I do have end of year tests. I am trying to contact someone who has been in this situation before or who is currently homeschooling (if my children are not excepted due to lack of report cards). Any helpful thoughts or contact information is appreciated.

Homeschooled kids are accepted into the Aramco schools. End of year results and any other standardized test results will be looked at. They will probably test the kids on arrival for placement. But many kids are tested on arrival, so I wouldn't be concerned about that.

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this. I have a question about homeschooling and internet access...we are in the early stages of applying for Aramco. My husband interviews soon.
We currently use Bob Jones University Online to homeschool our kids. It's an online, Christian homeschooling program. Would that *content* be allowed online in KSA? I'm wondering if I will need to find a secular program to use online there?
Thanks!

If you are referring to the program found at www.bjupresshomeschool.com/store/home, it is not blocked on local internet, so it should be fine. Even if it were blocked, there are ways to deal with that.

Thanks so much! Is it illegal to receive Christian school curriculum (workbooks/textbooks) in the mail from the US to KSA?

If you use USPS, it is moot as it will never get here anyway. To answer your question, technically "yes" but you will most likely receive them with no problem with any courier service. Very worst case is they will be destroyed and you might pay a fine. Highly unlikely. I would not stress about it.

Thanks so much Bogie...
Do you, or anyone else, know if homeschoolers can participate in school sports/clubs/activities or use the library, etc? Is there such a thing as 'flexible partial enrollment' where the student only takes certain classes in the school?

Meghan -
We're a homeschooling family in Rakah and when it comes to the Aramco schools, we were told in no uncertain terms that the Aramco schools don't support partial enrollment. That said, we're considering enrolling our 4 year old in a part-time Arabic immersion program (the wife has the details), but it is off-camp.
As for activities, we've started them with swimming lessons and I'm looking at tennis lessons for the boys, too.
Aramco doesn't recognize homeschooling in an official capacity, but they don't have a problem with it as far as I can tell, as long as the kids aren't a nuisance to the community. We've only been here for 2 1/2 weeks, so I'd like to hear others' experiences, too.

ExpatinWaiting, Thanks so much. I'm a little disappointed to hear that there's no option to participate in school sports, etc. but I completely understand. I too would like the kids to do immersion Arabic (I would join them). My kids are 4,6,9,11 so they would never be out and about on camp without me so I'm not too worried about them bothering anyone. Looking forward to reading other homeschooler responses

MeghanBrady,
o, we homeschool and there are several families who do. You can participate in extra curricular activities, they span a whole range of options from sport to art to amateur dramatics. There is a growing group of families who homeschool outside of the company as well. I'm going to try and pm you

Bogie, My mom has been shipping me packages through USPS for 8 years, and we have received every single one of them. They are not tracked, but they do come. Only one time we were worried as it took longer than 2 weeks, but usually it's exactly 10 days to Udhailiyah.
Meghan, I'm not sure which camp you are moving to. I live in UDH, and there are many sports for kids that wouldn't require enrollment in the school. For example, soccer, tennis, baseball, badminton, tae kwon do. I am not sure if the swim team is associated with the school or not. So, there should be some options for sports.

Thanks UmmRiyam! We'd be at Ras Tanura, if an offer comes. Encouing to hear about both the mail system and the sports options.

YOUR PM WAS SENT. There is a glitch in the system that does not move the PMs from outbox to sent.
