Dear all, I'm from India and petrophysicist. I was interviewed and aramco has offered me job But I have been offered position of Geologist, Grade13. I'm wondering as I have petrophysicist background and aramco is offering Geologist position. Is this a mistake or what? What should I do, should I contact HR to offer me petrophysicist role? Is it possible, can HR Aramco change it? Please reply and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you

thanks @ vpainter, I did contact the HR and they say that "I'm being hired for what I have been interviewed and job le can not be changed to Petrophysicist as this job le is not available in Saudi Aramco. Furthermore they say that unfortunately Aramco does not have Petrophysicist job le but I will assume the same roles and responsibility that I was interviewed for. " I was interviewed as a petrophysicist and all interview questions were about petrophysicist role. The question is that what should I do, should I take it that I'm being hired as petrophysicist? Thanks.

The Saudi government has a list of all les expats can be hired for. Petrophysicist may not be on it. 14 years ago, petrophysicist visa came as an agricultural scientist. That is the same le on the visa today. Get questions about that sometimes as we come through customs.

As far as I can see, that was answered already by your recruiter. According to the info you already posted, the recruiter stated that:
And, as you posted earlier:

GroveWanderer,
I think what he is saying is that he was interviewed as (i.e. 'while being') a Petrophysicist for a position as (i.e. 'to act as') a Geologist. And now is disappointed that Aramco wants to hire him for the position he interviewed for, as opposed to what he would like to work as. If that is a correct interpretation, I would have to say I understand Aramco's position and would recommend he reject the offer (unless he wants to work as a Geologist) and reapply when a Petrophysicist position becomes available.
Note that coming to Aramco with the intention to change positions at some point in the future to something you think that you are more suited for is a very risky proposition. Transfers for expats, especially higher grade codes, is very uncommon.
Edit - Ooops. I should have read more in the thread. Now I see more clearly. Unfortunately I'm not any more enlightened as to whether the position that newexpat interviewed for would actually involve petrophysics, but if it was clear in the interview that that was indeed his background, there's always a chance that it would.

Thanks all for your reply. I was interviewed as petrophysicist for E&P dept., but the job offer le is Geologist which they did not mention during the interview and I don't want to work as Geologist.
I did ask the recruiter about that why they have given me the Geologist role while I was interviewed as Petrophysicist. I want to be hired as Petrophysicist as per my background and experience in this field.
The recruiter replied: "You are being hired for what you have been interviewed and job le can not be changed to Petrophysicist as this job le is not available in Saudi Aramco. Unfortunately Aramco does not have Petrophysicist job le but I will assume the same roles and responsibility that I was interviewed for. "
Now my question is that as per recruiter's reply (above), should I be sure that I'm being hired as Petrophysicist?
Thanks.

In the interview they did not mention the position I shall be hired for. But I took it that I shall be hired for Petrophysicist position as whole interview did focus petrophysics discipline. Now they have offered me geologist role which I don't understand why m given this.

There is no position in Aramco called Petrophysicist. Your workscope maybe that of a Petrophysicist but your position maybe a Geologist I, II, II etc.
Aramco has one division that is called RDD (Reservoir Description Division) under the RDSD department (Reservoir Description and Simulation Department) and the RDD division is probably 60-80 people strong and all of them are Petrophysicist and ALL of them are in the Petroleum Engineer I, II, III, IV, Specialist position.
On the other side of the pond is the Reservoir Characterization Department and Exploration Resource and Assessment Department, there is one Division under ERAD that handles resource assessments and almost all of them are Petrophyicist but ALL of them are in the Geologist I, II, III, IV, Specialist Position.
So what I would advise is not to get your knickers into a twist about your position. If you were interviewed for a Petrophyisicist work, then most likely you will be doing petrophysical work.

Thanks! Azraeil, yours is a much more detailed response.
I just had it explained to me very simply: if you are hired by the Exploration part of E&P then petrophysicists are visa led as a geologist and if you are hired into the Production part of E&P then a petrophysicist is visa led Petroleum Engineer.
