I was supposed to be in Rakah but they housed me temp in ABQ and today housing sent me an email that I will be moved to a Local compound in Dhahran/Khobar area.
Does anyone have idea what is the other local camp other then Rakah? as she told its not going to be Rakah

Hey rockiesCal - I wish that I could offer you some more information on this but I cannot. I have also heard some rumours around here about this new compound. From what I've heard (can't remember which thread but I'll look for it) is that there is a new compound near Dhahran that is being rented.
I was also initially told that I'd be more than likely be heading to Rakah and then I was informed by the woman doing the orientation (while down for my visa medical) that my family would be headed to ABQ.
What are your thoughts on ABQ anyways?

rockiesCal,
I've heard of a couple of compounds that are mainly for expats, but not exclusively with similar amenities or better than Rakah. A friend of a friend whom was with Halliburton is living in one of those and when he got a job with Aramco, they decided not to move to DHA in that time, they really like it. Aramco gives an assistance and he tells me that he very we'll cover the fully furnished house with this and some leftover remains.
Google Oasis Luxury villas Khobar.
I know that there's another one but can't remember the name.

Probably is good to re-check with the relo, I was offer the opportunity to rent in a local compound when wife objected abqaiq, but I though could be worse because of the lack of transportation (aramco buses don't attend local compounds) and my kiddo would have to go outside international school, not aramco's. I was told I'm still going to abqaiq 'cause the change of status (now bachelor)

I will also be renting in a local compound within the Al Khobar area because my kid will be attending school in Bahrain so I need to be closer to the causeway. My relocation advisor sent me a brochure with some of the options available for off camp housing. They all look very nice. That Oasis Luxury Villas is the first of the list on the brochure. I was also told that there are transportation companies to DHA that you can hire so that shouldn't be a problem.
Even though I'll rent off camp I was told that we'll need to stay in Aramco compound (most likely ABQ) for at least the first month after our arrival in KSA in order to obtain our iqamas. After getting iqamas and finding a suitable house then we can move out to local community.

So what's the story with ABQ anyways? Last I heard most people were heading to Rakkah and now most people are heading to ABQ. ABQ works alright for my family as it saves my kids from having to take a bus from Rakkah to DHA for school. A 3 hour commute everyday kind of stinks but I've been meaning to start watching Game of Thrones so that may work alright. Maybe we can convince them to rip a few rows of seats out from the back of the bus and put some workout equipment in.
