Hey everyone. So in our orientation today we were told that no firearms (including children's toy guns) are allowed to be brought into KSA. I have a 6 year old that will be CRUSHED if he gets his Star Wars basters confiscated by customs. This seems a bit extreme to me as these are obviously toys and look nothing like any kind of real guns. We would really like to take these as they are a favourite toy of his. Does anyone have experience with this type of thing? I was thinking about putting them in our checked baggage rather than e-boxes in hopes of explaining to the customs agent that they are toys. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If they really matter that much to your son, I recommend you bring them in your checked luggage. There is still no guarantee that they won't be confiscated, but I think it is highly unlikely. There are extreme stories out there, but most of the time the customs guys in Dammam are reasonable people (in our own personal experience, they have always been wonderful and courteous), and they are very unlikely to confiscate obvious toys. And if in the end, they do get confiscated, I'm pretty sure your son will eventually recover from the trauma (though I do recall that 3 minutes with a very disappointed 6 year old can feel like an eternity...) I agree bring them in your checked luggage. Just an FYI, there is a Toys R Us outside DHA in the Jarir's Plaza next to Ikea if you need it.

I think they are referring more to children's toy guns that look relatively similar to the real thing (and I have seen quite a few that do). Star Wars blasters, nerf guns and the like would probably not be a problem. No guarantees, of course.
