Finally..!
I have been waiting since November 2013 for my visa le and recently received it! We are scheduled to arrive end of May, our pre- assigned housing is Al-Rakah compound. I will be working in Dhahran..!
This forum has helped us with a lot of things and I cant wait to start!
Hopefully someone can help me with this..
*Can anyone confirm to me if the supply in the compound is 110 or 220?
*I am planning to send my car to KSA. Since we come from Abu Dhabi, the car will be there faster than us (we have to send the car prior to us leaving since the export certificate is only valid for 92hrs) I will give the shipping company all the details about the compound etc.. but im wondering where they can leave the car? I guess they cant just park it in/infront of the compound?
*Our daughter is 2years and before she would go to school we wonder is there is some kind of nursery so she can start to play with other kids?!
* Is it easy to let my (Dutch) driving license translated to apply for Saudi license?
Thanks again to the many people here on the forum who share the advise and experience....!!!

I can help you with your questions relating to Rakkah compound - might be better in the part ofteh forum specifically for Rakkah:
There are six 220V outlets in the kitchen and laundry when you arrive. Three are already committed to applicances (oven, fridge/freezer, washer dryer) - that is you have three outlets at your disposal. The rest of the house is 110V on arrival. You can request, through the housing helpdesk, a conversion of the rest to 220V although they put in the "old style" two perpendicular flat pins and one round pin rather than the UK style three large flat pin plugs. All appliances which you buy locally will be 220V with UK plug, so you still need an adapter.
There is a type of K2 which is run privately from someone's home on site four days a week. The French School also takes children of 2 years old. The Lycee Francais of Al Khobar is 15mins drive away, the transport for which you would have to arrange yourself. There are also lots of structured and unstructured activities organised by parents onsite - there will be plenty of opportunities for your daughter to play with other children.

Django,
Welcome to Rakah !
If you have a Dutch drivers license it will have to be translated from dutch into arabic. In KSA it will be difficult to have the translation done. I am Dutch and had my drivers license translated in Holland to english and the original documents translated here to arabic. If you can have done directly into arabic is better but I could not find someone to do it here for me and it got to be official. Hope it clarifies your question. By the way are a dutch national ?
Kind regards
Ami Mes
